About MeetElise

MeetElise is on a mission to revolutionize the housing industry, with the ultimate goal of making good housing more accessible.

Access to affordable housing isn’t just a problem - it’s a global crisis. An estimated seven million affordable and available rental homes are needed in just the US alone, and no amount of government spending or policy have proven to be effective solutions.

MeetElise uses machine learning to address the underlying cause preventing significant advancements in affordable housing: operational costs. By automating the leasing and management of apartment homes, we’re creating a new, low cost operating model that allows for the development of new housing at scale.

Our first product is an AI leasing agent named Elise that converts 65% more prospective renters to residents than a human leasing agent. She answers questions and schedules tours 24/7 and is so human-like that renters say they’re “here to meet Elise” when they show up for a tour.

MeetElise is well-funded by VCs, strategic real estate investors, and customers and was started by technical cofounders from MIT and the University of Cambridge.

Our small, courageous team is building the future we want to live in. A future where housing is affordable, powered by technology, and accessible to all.

About the role

Senior Designers are responsible for the design and orchestration of visual elements in a systemic composition. The discipline combines design for communication (brand, print, and visual storytelling) and support for interaction design (UI/UX, design systems and digital products). As a visual designer you balance spirit and rationality; brand and product; functional clarity and emotional impact.

As a Visual Designer, you are expected to represent depth in the craft of visual design. You will often be the backbone of your projects from beginning to end. You will plan, prioritise, and deliver visual design activities autonomously, in the context of interdisciplinary projects. You will lead conversations within your domain, providing articulate recommendations and helping guide design choices.

Responsibilities

  • Translate brand principles, themes, and moods into strategic frameworks for visual expressions
  • Create scalable design language systems for typography, colour, components, and layouts
  • Support design efforts for digital consumer and enterprise products
  • Design brand identities and brand collateral
  • Create multi-media narratives that tell engaging stories of a team, project, or deliverable, with the audience and communication objective in mind
  • Evolve brand expression; by building on either existing direction, or creating one from scratch
  • Drive collaboration with marketing and editorial teams to align from the design purpose to the execution roadmap
  • Frame a vision for art direction, photography, and illustration to reinforce product/service vision
  • Support the team with guidance for visual expression
  • Create assets which tell the story of our product  in an impactful way

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional visual design experience (although you might have had a different job title like “art director”)
  • Highly developed design skills, demonstrated in your portfolio of recent work
  • Confident presentation and storytelling abilities
  • Experience collaborating in multifunctional teams as the visual design lead
  • Proficiency with contemporary design tools and methods
  • Business level ability in English

Bonus if you have

  • A university degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related design or artistic discipline
  • Experience working in a variety of organisations (start-up, corporate, agency/consultancy)
  • Experience from outside the design field that enriches your perspective as a designer

Application
As part of your application, please include a link or PDF of your portfolio of recent work, highlighting your abilities and experience relevant to the role, with specific examples of how you work, think, collaborate, and contribute to great design outcomes. Please note that we are unable to accept any applications without a portfolio.
