Medium is building a new kind of media product — one centered around conversation and reaction, where audience engagement is not an afterthought but something inherent to the experience. A place for thoughtful and authentic voices to connect, collide, and converse — through words and images — to build upon, or challenge, our understandings, making us all smarter as a result.

But for professional publishers, Medium is more than just a network for the exchange of ideas. As the Internet moves from a distributed structure to one where attention is consolidated in mobile apps operated by a few large social networks, publishing to a standalone website makes less sense than it once did. That’s why Medium offers world-class editing tools, a robust and hassle-free content management system, hosted custom domains, and rapid, continuous product innovation focused on developing new ways for publishers to understand, grow, and engage their audiences.

Together, the network and these publishing tools make Medium the preferred social platform for thoughtful commentary, provocative essays, and blockbuster enterprise journalism from independent and commercial publishers. We believe this platform will give publishers incredible opportunities to engage and grow their audiences, to start and drive conversation, to accumulate and exert influence in their communities — and soon, to access the financial support they need to sustain their impact in the world.

Our Publisher Development team will introduce Medium to publishers and helps them meet their audience, technical, and revenue needs on the platform. We need you to help build it.

Responsibilities

Here’s how you’ll guide our efforts to the next level:

  • Developing and executing on strategies and tactics to establish Medium as the first-choice publishing platform for professional content creators.
  • Leveraging relationships, research, and market analysis to understand publishers’ needs and drive alignment with our Publications product offering.
  • Defining the message and story and creating materials that convey the value proposition of publishing within the Medium network.

  • Identifying, cultivating, building, and growing strategic publisher partnerships to advance high-quality content and participation on Medium.
  • Influencing product development by channelling publishers’ feedback and long-term objectives.
  • Leading, growing, and mentoring the Publisher Development team.

Qualifications

You have at least five years of experience working with independent publishers in a partnerships/business development capacity, and at least two years of experience managing a team. You have expert-level understanding of the digital publishing landscape, and you are deeply immersed in its culture and community. You exhibit outstanding written and in-person communication, and you’re an industry thought leader with tons of experience presenting to and persuading senior-level audiences. You’re based in NY or SF, and you’re willing to travel.

People who thrive at Medium are entrepreneurial, self-directed, adaptable, and able to flourish in ambiguous situations. They build strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams and leaders. And they love Medium for its unique opportunities for expression and interaction.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?
