ORGANIZATION AND PROGRAM PROFILE is an independent non-profit founded by McKinsey & Company in January 2018 to have lasting and substantial impact on complex social challenges. Our first initiative, Rethinking Recycling, aims to dramatically improve recycling systems in cities around the world so that they are truly economically sustainable, socially inclusive, and environmentally beneficial – thus accelerating the transition to a zero-waste, circular economy. We focus particularly on plastics and organics (food and garden waste) in the post-consumer waste stream, which together drive much of the waste pollution crisis and its contribution to local pollution and global climate change.



We are looking for a passionate, high-performing Project Lead to join a collaborative program team of colleagues, external staff, and local partners in Indonesia. This role will be responsible for overseeing and driving the recycling transformations (implementing the Rethinking Recycling Academy) in 6 villages or Desas, across Denpasar, collectively referred to as “Cohort 1”.

Responsibilities include :

  • Set the overall transformation strategy and roadmap for Cohort 1 villages, together with the Indo leadership team
  • Coordinate and set priorities across the Cohort 1 team of 10+ people, ensuring collaboration between workstreams (e.g., Behavioural Change, Operations)
  • Provide strategic and day-to-day problem solving, leading a collaborative process to prioritise between tradeoffs, manage risks and respond to emergent opportunities
  • Prepare high quality, actionable syntheses of program work to help frame decision-making and for regular meetings with stakeholders, including memos and presentations
  • Steer transformation progress of Cohort 1 through tracking of KPIs and reporting
  • Oversee Cohort 1 village finances and investment prioritization decisions (e.g., new equipment), with the support of Indo Leadership team
  • Oversee business case analysis and recommendations to ensure financial sustainability, including return on investment modelling and sensitivity analysis
  • Codify learnings from the program to ensure replicability and scalability, as well as cross-geography learnings
  • Coach team members on a regular basis


  • 5+ years of work experience managing a high performing and diverse team to deliver complex projects with diverse stakeholders, including implementation and transformations
  • Solutions-oriented and pragmatic mindset with the ability to remain positive in the face of setbacks and unexpected challenges
  • Demonstrated aptitude in conceptual problem solving (e.g., distilling themes from team members debriefs)
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills, able to identify key insights from data and ideally, experience in managing budgets
  • Ability to establish trust and credibility with a range of different stakeholders, from implementation team members to external partners, funders, and CEOs
  • Demonstrated aptitude to coordinate work delivery within a team and align multiple stakeholders outside core team towards a common ambition
  • Strong track record of managing and delivering work while engaging leaders at appropriate times
  • Minimum a Bachelor Education in Environmental, Public Policy, Development and/or relevant fields 
  • Experience in relevant issues (e.g., sustainability, community transformation, etc)
  • Fluency in English and ideally native or professional fluency in Bahasa Indonesia
