The Position:
As a Senior Research Associate I on our Protein Sciences Team, you will support the discovery and advancement of new drug targets. Working closely with a collaborative team, you’ll play a hands-on role in the expression, purification, and structural characterization of proteins that are essential to our therapeutic pipeline. Reporting to the Head of Protein Sciences, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your expertise in protein science and take on complex challenges that will shape the future of medicine.
Your Impact:
- Contribute to drug discovery efforts by designing and conducting protein expression and purification experiments
- Use a variety of biochemical and biophysical assays, to characterize proteins and protein-small molecule interactions
- Perform protein crystallization trials and support structural analysis
- Partner closely with the drug discovery team to design and execute experiments
- Share your findings in research meetings, with special attention to data quality and reproducibility, supporting data driven discussions that guide our project strategy
- Learn new laboratory techniques, troubleshoot experiments, and uphold rigorous scientific standards to ensure the integrity of every result
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry or Structural Biology with 5+ years of hands-on experience in recombinant protein production and characterization
- Demonstrated experience in protein production across bacterial, insect and mammalian systems and proficiency in modern chromatography purification techniques
- A strong foundation in protein characterization through biochemical and biophysical methods (e.g. SDS-PAGE, WB, DSF, SPR)
- Familiarity with protein crystallization techniques (both manual and robotic) is a plus
- Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and communication skills, along with the ability to thrive independently and as part of a collaborative team

The expected annual salary range for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area is $99,000 - $120,000. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus. Maze performs position-based compensation benchmarking to industry market data to ensure we pay competitive wages. Determination of starting salary will depend upon a variety of job-related factors, which may include professional experience, skills, and job location. The expected salary range for this role may be modified in the future.
