Mayan is a technology and data company that develops automation software for Amazon sellers. Our initial product set includes:

  • Advertising management, which optimizes the performance of our customers' campaigns to deliver higher sales and profits
  • Inventory optimization, which utilizes forecasting based on organic and ad-driven sales to predict when inventory needs to be restocked

The Team

The core MIT founding team brings experience across e-commerce, tech infrastructure, advertising, and finance. There is a sales team of 8, with support from an account management team of 4 with an expertise in the Amazon seller ecosystem.

 

The Role

As Director of Sales, you will be supported by Mayan executives and fellow team members from sales, customer success, and marketing to continue the growth of our customer base. Our sales team is often the first line of communication with customers, so strong social skills are key. Mayan has a strong record of growing revenues for our customers, and the Director will have supporting collateral and case studies from these customers to help close deals. The Director of Sales will lead in a crucial role by implementing, improving, and maintaining sales processes, strategies, and material. This role will lead in the strategy around sales account management, lead qualification and distribution, pipeline analysis, and more. Your expertise and enthusiasm will drive the Mayan sales team forward into a continually-improved, well-built flywheel. You will report to the CEO and are part of our strategic leadership team.

You will bring:

  • Self-motivation and a drive to succeed within a team and high-growth startup environment
  • A solid work and professional ethic - a self-starter with an ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A minimum of 10 years of sales experience, with a track record of successfully exceeding quota targets
    • A minimum of 5 years of leading a B2B SaaS sales team, especially through a startup phase
  • B2B or SaaS sales experience, with an understanding of e-commerce and digital advertising
  • A data-driven approach to both creating a sales pipeline as well as closing deals
  • Learnings and best practices from your previous roles, and collaborate in learning ours
  • Presentation skills that bring data and our results to life
  • A competitive streak to beat your goals and help the sales team win, quarter over quarter

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • 10+ years working in a successful sales organization
  • Strong business intuition and ability to understand metrics and data insights
  • Proficiency in working with CRMs (HubSpot or Salesforce)
  • Familiarity with e-commerce, specifically Amazon
  • Attention to detail and creating/following processes is required, especially in updating the sales pipeline, deal stages, and forecasting sales metrics
  • Ability to run due diligence in prospecting customers, track prospects, and deliver an honest outlook on likelihood of closing prospects in the sales funnel
  • Ability to learn a new industry and sets of products
  • Flexibility to travel and attend various in-person conferences
  • Experience with sales tactics and developing playbooks
  • Developed repeatable processes and best practices that help grow pipelines and close deals
  • Cross-department collaboration & inclusion
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with advertising, inventory, or analytics industry is a plus
  • Digital media ad sales experience is a plus
  • Experience in a tech startup
  • Experience in going to conferences, career fairs, and other networking events where social skills are crucial
