We are seeking a Community Center Manager to support  Mather's  collaboration with Fairfax County Neighborhood & Community Services (FCNCS). The Community Center Manager will manage Fairfax County Neighborhood & Community Services (FCNCS)  employees and facilitators, Mather Engagement and Wellness team members, contracted facilitators, and volunteers. The role will assure that the Community Center meets the Aging Well needs of older adults in the region by managing operations, developing programs, maintaining service quality, securing partners, and building relationships with the community. Key areas of managerial responsibility include development of community center calendar, ensuring meaningful community center participant engagement with diverse program formats, budget, vendor management, outcomes measurement, and adherence to access and safety standards.

This role contributes to Mather by extending our commitments to wellness, creative engagement and lifelong learning to older adults in the region surrounding the Mather in Tysons. The successful candidate will be able to successfully navigate partnership between two distinct organizations, managing the day-to-day operation of a community center setting and coordinating a wide range of facilitator/colleague/vendor/volunteer programs. The right candidate will have a background in aging with expertise in wellness and/or creative engagement, and ability to successfully lead programming, manage others, and successfully manage budget, scheduling, and participant safety

This position is full-time, salaried,  and based out of The Mather in Tysons Corner.  Weekend and holiday availability as needed required. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and implements annual plan in collaboration with FCNCS and Mather’s Director of Resident Engagement to achieve community center goals, budget, and mission.
  • Manages Community Center Engagement Coordinator, Contracted Facilitators, and Volunteers for performance consistent with Mather mission, values, and guiding principles.
  • Creates calendar in collaboration with the Mather in Tysons and FCNCS Senior Centers that provide robust offerings for Community Center participants utilizing Mather employees, FCNCS employees, independent contractors, and volunteers.
  • Oversees Community Center operations to build Nextraordinary experiences, a safe environment, and resources for aging well.
  • Assures that programs are developed, implemented, promoted, and filled; that programs are designed to support the Person-Centric Wellness Model, and emphasize realms of Wellness, Creative Engagement, and Lifelong Learning.
  • Ensures successful operation of opening and closing procedures, safety, welcome and registration experience, participant transportation, event set-up, community center supplies, etc. Ensures Community Center participants receive nextraordinary greeting, registration, engagement, and resources.
  • Develops and oversees volunteer opportunities to provide meaningful experiences for older adults and to build member involvement and ownership.
  • Promotes and represents the Community Center in the community to build awareness and participation.
  • Establishes, operationalizes, engages team members in, and sustains a Quality Assurance Process Improvement process.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required:

  • College Degree or greater in Recreation Therapy, Hospitality, Geriatrics, Psychology, or related field, or 5+ years related Community Center/Wellness/Aging experience.
  • 5+ years of managerial responsibility, including Experience providing and training others on excellent customer service, time management and leadership skills.
  • Experience designing and facilitating Wellness, Creative Arts, or Lifelong Learning programs for older adults.
  • Positive, engaging, and collaborative attitude, strong listening skills, public speaking, and strong 1:1 and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to lead by example. Self-initiator requiring minimum supervision.
  • Strong time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to use or learn a variety of tech-based services and platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
