Who We Are:
Materialize is an operational data warehouse. It’s the same SQL, same workflows, same architecture as an analytical data warehouse, but with a continuous computation model instead of batch. Your data is always up to date, always consistent, and always immediately accessible, so you can build real-time automation, engaging customer experiences, and new operational data products that drive value for your business.
Our streaming-first data warehouse is purpose-built for the unique demands of operational work. The familiar cloud architecture means low admin overhead, no new skills required. And the incremental engine means the same complex batch transformation logic from analytical warehouses can be ported over to run in real time with minimal engineering effort, and without increasing costs.

As a Member of the Education team, you will be a leading expert on Materialize. You will use that expertise to write technical documentation, explain core concepts via text and videos, and create a curriculum that can be used for self-paced and hands-on training. Your work will ensure that our users can self-serve while building with Materialize. And, it will help educate the wider market on what Materialize is and what we do best.
This role sits within our Product organization and reports directly to our Head of Product. We are seeking folks with a technical background for this unique cross-functional role. Our ideal candidate has a software engineering background or deep experience as a data practitioner and loves to teach. If you love crafting ways to get users to that “aha!” moment, we’d love to hear from you!
Who You Are
- You love technology but also care about the people who use it (our customers!)
- You have 5+ years of total experience, ideally in both technical and educational roles
- You have advanced knowledge of SQL and experience working with other programming languages
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of producing quality educational content (through technical documentation, blog posts, videos, conference talks, or whatever else you’ve worked on!)
- You are based in New York and excited about coming to our office (in Astor Place) at least three days a week
- Optional, but nice to have: you have experience operating data infrastructure in production
Responsibilities
- Become an authoritative expert on the product by regularly using it yourself
- Collaboratively develop an Education strategy focused on self-paced learning with our Head of Product
- Independently drive and deliver on the most urgent and important work items in our Education strategy, whether that’s writing technical documentation, shipping a blog post, or creating custom content for self-paced learning
- Create content that is clear, relevant, and reflects the challenges our users encounter in the real world
- Review content created by other team members — on our Product, Engineering, or Go-to-Market teams — for technical accuracy
- Continually assess and improve the quality of the educational content we make available to our users
