Material Bank is seeking a Texture Artist, Digital Material Acquisition for digital material post processing as the second gate within the broader digital material acquisition process.
The role, Texture Artist, specializes in creating, processing, re-touching, and quality assuring the PBR texture stacks to be used in the broad virtual environment. The role requires an understanding of material attributes and their interaction with environmental lighting. Those materials can include ceramics, textiles, paints, woods, LVT, leather, carpet, stone, metallic finishes, and/or any other materials commonly seen in architecture, interior, and landscape.
What you’ll do:
Texture Artists will work closely with scanning technicians, modelers and technical artists on a daily basis to execute assigned projects within the required timeline. The digital material asset outputs must meet the quality requirements while maintaining the best possible fidelity. To be more specific, the responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assess the assigned texture input to determine the best technical approach
- Post-process and retouch the raw material scans based on quality guidelines and product data
- Create PBR stacks procedurally based on reference images to achieve photorealism
- Develop and refine textures throughout the workflow process
- Streamline necessary quality assurance process to ensure output authenticity at-scale
- Self-check all outputs quality prior to submission, which includes but not limits to: color and scale accuracy, dimension complys with real product, photorealism etc.
- Conduct UV mapping and proof rendering when necessary
- Software and other tools used:
- Maya / 3D Studio Max / Cinema 4D / Autodesk
- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator
- Substance Designer, Sampler (Alchemist)
- ArtEngine
- Blender
- xTex
- Unreal Engine
What you’ll bring:
This role requires a broad knowledge of the framework and processes of PBR texture maps, a keen eye for detail, and high standards for aesthetics.
- An Associates/Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
- Adobe or other graphic software proficiency
- 3D experience is a plus
- Training in computer graphics, 3D animation or graphic design
- Experience in texturing 3D models, knowledge of modeling rigs is a plus
- Ability to consistently draw inspiration from real world references
- Knowledge of video game genres and latest trends in gaming
- Solid understanding of visual language - texture, color, dimension, scale, perspective, shade, composition depth of field, proportion, lighting, spatial awareness, etc.
- Strong illustration, digital painting, and conceptual skills
- File organization and time management skills
- Ability to be a team player and work independently
- Desire to learn new technologies and design techniques
- Attention to details; ability to follow rigorous instructions
- Passion and pride in the work you do, and skillset gained through the journey
- Team work and collaboration – win together
- Graphic / 3D / Digital imaging / photography experience a plus
- Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines
- A positive and respectful attitude and flexible and efficient use of time
- Experience or passion to be able to evaluate materials in a variety of formats and determine their category
