What we are looking for:
This role will be part of a small growing team focused on introducing MasterClass to the world and inspiring everyone to learn from the best. We tell the stories that connect people with our mission and products.
To do that, we need a great writer: someone who is passionate about shaping words into messages that inspire action or moves perceptions. Whether through advertising campaigns, digital experiences, products, social content, or printed materials, you'll ensure our voice is fresh, authentic, engaging, and unmistakably MasterClass.
The ideal candidate for this role is a writer by heart and by trade. As a writer, this person is a master of all forms and mediums and is equally excited to write a video script, a strong headline, or product naming. We are looking for someone who is able to show exceptional craftsmanship and shift between any writing style and tonal nuances suited for the subjects and in context of medium and audience. Immaculate attention to detail is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Write compelling, emotive, thought provoking and entertaining scripts for TV commercials and other video assets
- Deliver compelling, inspiring writing across a wide range of brand/product experiences, marketing channels, and content
- Generate brand engagement and conversation with masterful storytelling
- Contribute to brainstorms, concept exercises, and development of best-in-class executions for marketing, advertising, and product experience
- Collaborate with writers and teams across the organization (e.g. Marketing/Comms, Content, Product, Support) to ensure cohesive, consistent messaging and voice
- Work closely with producers to set priorities, achieve deadlines and allocate resources smartly
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in copywriting, advertising, or content marketing
- A solid portfolio of strong campaign copywriting examples from short-form advertising copy (brand & performance-led headlines, OOH, taglines, TV scripts) to longer-form editorial writing (email/lifecycle, product, articles)
- Agency and/or other in-house experience
- Excellent short-form and long-form writing skills
- Ability to write in a different tones across many categories
- Solid understanding of how to ignite affinity, conversation, and engagement across channels
- Clear understanding and point of view on brand voice, tone, and style
- Master collaborator with people from different creative disciplines and teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent grammar, editing and proofreading capabilities
- Legally eligible to work in the United States

The salary range listed is for NYC/CA/WA. As a company, we have a location based strategy, which means the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.
MasterClass’s salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry. In addition to salary, we also offer equity and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, flexible PTO, and more). The range listed is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted.
