About the Position
Key Responsibilities
Investment Ownership
- Responsible for actively managing a pipeline of investment opportunities and playing an active role in sourcing deal flow for IAF
- Identify opportunities appropriate to IAF and lead the end-to-end deal process from sourcing to investment execution
- Presents investment opportunities to the IAF Investment Committee and leads the development of investment memoranda to relevant parties
Portfolio Management
- Oversees and assesses the outcomes of IAF investments, actively involved in taking opportunities to the next phase of growth, development or follow-on investment
- Interacts with investee companies to develop a strategy and tactical plan to ensure achievement of operational milestones necessary to secure subsequent financing or become self-sufficient
- Monitors reporting from investee companies through exit of IAF's investment, helping companies to achieve scale and enable success
Ecosystem Engagement
- Provides coaching and guidance to less experienced members of the team, enabling a dynamic and results-driven work culture
- Engages and coordinates with ecosystem partners and investment communities with a view to developing consistent sources of deal flow and opportunities for initial and follow-on investments
- Contributes to and maintains a network of technology and domain experts that can be called upon to help evaluate a wide range of deal flow and assist with due diligence
Qualifications
- Minimum bachelor's degree in business, engineering or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree + professional designation (MBA, PEng, CBV, CFA, CPA, etc.) an asset
- 8+ years of related work experience
- Investment experience with preference given to experience in assessing early-stage technology companies
- Strong business development and collaboration skills (investment syndicates)
- Experience with corporate governance and legal structures
- Superior negotiations skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Personal integrity and professionalism
