About the MaRS-adMare Therapeutics Accelerator

The MaRS® adMare™ Therapeutics (Tx) Accelerator is part of the National Accelerator with Regional Partners, which brings early-stage ventures together to achieve milestones for the development and commercialization of therapeutics in Canada.

About the role

This role will directly support the Therapeutics (Tx) Accelerator, a MaRS collaborative program designed to advance exciting new early-stage biotherapeutic ventures with co-shared wet lab space, shared equipment, and advisory capacity to promote rapid, pre-clinical growth. This role will assist cohort ventures by managing the physical lab infrastructure, coordinating laboratory equipment use among the team and programmatic processes and structures to facilitate startup advancement, where required. This role will be critical in allowing early-stage ventures to rapidly complete pre-clinical experiments and achieve key milestones for future growth. The role will demand solid skills in laboratory management, safety and operating protocols, a practical work ethic, collaborative team interaction, good communication skills and strong organizational ability.

This is a 1-year contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the lab environment to create an effective place to conduct research; manage and track inventory, oversee lab purchasing activities including procurement, receiving, and stocking of inventory (based on venture needs); and act as the primary contact for lab vendors and maintenance and service visits.
  • Be an integral part of the program delivery team and work with ventures to understand their processes, lab requirements and technical work; create a plan for the program (and associated processes) to support each venture individually and the entire cohort when and where feasible (technically and financially).
  • Oversee and maintain laboratory policies and Environmental Health and Safety requirements and maintain an organized lab that enables the best workflow and use of shared laboratory resources and services.
  • Maintain oversight of the administrative and budget as related to the laboratory.
  • Support other Tx Accelerator team members and program partners, as required, in delivery of the full program aimed at facilitating cohort ventures to reach pre-determined milestones.

Qualifications:

  • Completed Undergraduate/Bachelor’s Science degree (biological sciences) or relevant experience.
  • 2+ years’ work experience in a university or private laboratory setting.
  • Strong coordinator, planner and organizer
  • Knowledge of basic and some advanced laboratory bench side skill sets (assays such as western blotting, ELISA and SDS-PAGE)
  • Innovative and ‘out of the box’ thinking when resource planning and overcoming challenges
  • Enjoy working with energetic individuals and constant challenges
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Powerpoint) and/or Google’s Office equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience with inventory management systems such as Quartzy, an asset

Salary Range: $75,000 - $93,000, benefits and paid time-off.
