About the MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund

About the Position

The incumbent supports the IAF Investment team with respect to various investment process activities, including coordinating various portfolio company and partner-related events, planning and coordinating investment pitches and committee meetings, analyzing portfolio company performance metrics, financial statements and unit structure and maintaining records and filing system related to IAF investments.
 
This role can be based in Toronto or Ottawa.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Process & Analysis

  • Conduct initial screening of investment deal flow, including inbound and qualified opportunities; organize investment pitches and coordinate meetings with prospective investee companies
  • Facilitate execution of closing documents and post-investment legal documents, acquiring signatures from the appropriate signatories; liaise with legal counsel and maintain copies and listing of all original debentures, share and warrant certificates
  • Conduct preliminary research related to the investment opportunities (i.e. industry research, technology assessment, transaction/valuation analysis)

Data Management & Insights

  • Assist in managing the pipeline, including new investment opportunities and follow-on investment financing rounds 
  • Support in managing the end-to-end deal process including investment analysis and the overall due diligence process 
  • Build market intelligence and competitive market analyses for existing and prospective investment across critical investment verticals

Portfolio Reporting

  • Assist the team in preparing supplemental documentation for the quarterly and ad-hoc reporting as required
  • Monitor IAF portfolio companies and ensure that investee companies adhere to reporting requirements, including timely submission of reports and repayments
  • Compile IAF and investee documentation for the external and audit purposes

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in business, engineering or equivalent
  • Professional designation: MBA, P.Eng, CBV, CFA, CPA, etc, an asset
  • 2+ years of relevant business experience
  • Highly proficient in MS Office
  • Strong oral and written communications skills 
  • High proficiency in financial modelling
  • Highly developed analytical and interpretive skills, conceptual thinker, able to solve complex problems
  • Superior interpersonal skills and customer focus
  • Maturity and high level of personal integrity
  • Highly developed organizational and trouble-shooting skills
