About your Role
Supporting execution of cleantech ecosystem strategy in the process creating an impactful MaRS experience for ventures and partners
Assists with, and some instances leads, delivery of initiatives including signature conferences, learning opportunities, and activities that connect ventures to customers/VCs/other stakeholders (ex: delegations, pitch days, Mission from MaRS, Women In Cleantech, MaRS VC Syndicate, etc)
Regularly contributes to thought leadership and communication pieces (ex: newsletters) that support the growth of cleantech ventures
Actively scouts high-potential companies for the MaRS cleantech ventures portfolio and helps assure portfolio quality by participating in intake meetings and providing guidance to the Growth Services engagement team. Maintains a deep knowledge of the companies in the portfolio and their capital and customer needs
Working with the Director, builds new relationships with investors, key government officials and innovation partners (e.g. accelerators, incubators) both domestically and internationally that could benefit Canadian cleantech ventures, and assure that existing relationships are well managed and in good standing
What you bring
The ability to develop and test novel initiatives and tools for driving venture growth, bringing outside ideas, intel, and opportunities to MaRS via participation in the broader external cleantech
- Education & Certifications
- Undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience with areas of focus that include business, science, technology and/or environment
3 years in a field related to venture development and community building, with a specific focus on cleantech innovation
- Some venture financing experience
- Skills & Capabilities
Strong strategic thinker, planner and organizer
A general understanding of how ventures are formed and what support they need to grow
Knowledge of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, particularly as it relates to cleantech
Evidence of relationships with strategic community partners, including investors, corporates, foundations, and international players in the cleantech sector
