Director, Product Marketing

Join MariaDB and help make the world's fastest growing open source database the new standard for enterprises around the globe.

We are looking for a dynamic and creative product marketer to play a key role on our global marketing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working on early-stage enterprise software products and services and will have delivered demonstrable results in all areas of product marketing (product positioning and messaging, customer and competitive intelligence, product launch and post-launch activities, creation of marketing assets and sales tools, etc.). A passion and talent for content creation and the ability to grasp and translate technical capabilities into value for multiple buyer personas are crucial. In this role, you will have the opportunity to both define strategy and be very hands-on with implementing it.

Responsibilities

Messaging and content:

  • Develop messaging across multiple customer profiles and buyer and influencer personas.
  • Create marketing content and sales assets that reflect MariaDB's differentiated product positioning and showcases our unique value propositions.
  • Recruit customer references and develop success story content
  • Create and oversee execution of programs to engage the customer community, nurture evangelists, and demonstrate technology leadership.

Product launch and promotion:

  • Stay closely aligned with the global sales team on objectives and needs.
  • Plan marketing for launches of new products and other company announcements, and manage the cross-functional implementation of launch marketing plans with product management and integrated marketing teams.
  • Collaborate with the integrated campaigns team on demand-gen and awareness program strategy and campaign messaging
  • Support all marketing program execution as the go-to person for messaging and content
  • Drive analyst relations efforts and ensure the product and the company are featured prominently and positively in evaluations and ratings such as the Gartner MQ.
  • Evangelize the company and its products and solutions at events and be a spokesperson for the company with press, analysts, and customers.

Sales enablement:

  • Enable sales and partners to effectively sell MariaDB products and solutions with sales tools that support the sales cycle such as playbooks, sales presentations, and success stories
  • Communicate the value proposition of the products and solutions to all sales channels.
  • Create sales training content and deliver training to the sales team and channel partners on the MariaDB story.

Market Research and Product-Market Fit:

  • Partner with Product Management to ensure that the product roadmap incorporates Voice of the Customer and benchmarking data and meets market demand
  • Conduct competitive research to identify key differentiators and marketing approaches to effectively compete and win.
  • Stay current with trends and dynamics of the database, open source, enterprise IT and cloud infrastructure, and related markets and contribute to the company’s vision and position within that ecosystem.

Position Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant product or solutions marketing experience in a B2B technology company, preferably one selling enterprise database platform solutions
  • Experience with marketing and/or selling database technologies and IT infrastructure software and a deep understanding of the dynamics and players within these markets.
  • Deep understanding of the value AI delivers inside products and applications
  • Proven track record developing core messaging, positioning, and sales and marketing content for highly technical products that generates customer engagement and improves sales effectiveness

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Your understanding of database and software infrastructure technologies is sufficient to hold your own in discussions with product management and contribute to product roadmap decisions.
  • You can translate technical functionality into messaging appropriate for a variety of prospect and customer audiences
  • Strong project management skills coupled with high attention to detail, superior multi-tasking abilities, and ability to “manage sideways”. Read: You know how to herd cats while doing your taxes and writing a novel. You get a refund, the book is a best-seller, and the cats all purr.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment
  • You know how to balance strategic and tactical responsibilities. You are willing and able to roll up your sleeves and personally get things done, even as you define and communicate the “big picture”
  • You tell compelling and relevant stories through creative, innovative, and cohesive presentations, and write concisely and clearly, without use of marketing jargon
  • You take initiative to find solutions when you encounter a problem, and see complexity as interesting rather than daunting.
  • You’re a zealot about showing up completely and delivering high quality results in everything you take on.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
