Manifold Bio is a biotech company pursuing a pipeline of protein therapeutics using novel molecular measurement technologies and library-guided protein engineering. Our drug discovery engine is differentiated by massively parallel screening in vivo from the beginning of our discovery process. This unique platform is powered by a proprietary protein barcoding technology that allows multiplexed protein quantitation at unprecedented scale and sensitivity. We combine this and other high-throughput protein engineering approaches with computational design to create antibody-like drugs and other biologics. Our world-class team of protein engineers, biologists, and computational scientists are working together to aim the platform at therapeutic opportunities where precise targeting is the key to overcoming clinical challenges.

Position

Manifold Bio is seeking a biologist enthusiastic about developing functional screens and in vitro mechanism-of-action assays, with an emphasis on neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases. These studies will evaluate the activity of drug candidates, elucidate their mechanism of action, and significantly contribute to critical program decision-making. You will work closely with Manifold Bio’s Applied Bio team to investigate high-priority biological questions relevant to both platform and programs. Furthermore, there is a strong opportunity to expand into the role as internal subject matter expert for in vitro pharmacology and toxicology as Manifold Bio expands its programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background and experience with a wide array of in vitro assays, with a track record of developing complex assays, and an eagerness to dive into new and diverse indications. As a key member of our growing company, you will contribute to building a culture that embraces scientific boldness and a strong team-focused approach to solving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, interpret, and iterate on cellular and biophysical assays to evaluate lead molecule activity and mechanism of action
  • Help nominate a data-driven lead molecule selection funnel
  • Conduct hypothesis-driven investigation of mechanism of action of lead molecules
  • Provide expertise on late-breaking advances in neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent experience in neuroscience and/or molecular biology, biological engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on wet-lab experience
  • Experience going end-to-end from experimental design through execution and data interpretation
  • Experience developing cell-based assays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in neuroscience, particularly neurodegenerative diseases
  • Experience with biophysical binding assays
  • Experience with single-cell analysis
  • Experience working with primary cell culture and/or clinical samples

Why you might be a good fit

  • Enthusiastic about tackling complex problems
  • Team player with a passion for working collaboratively
  • Strong oral and written communication to facilitate complex experiments with multiple parties
  • Forethought, organization, and flexibility to meet deadlines and iterate in a fast-paced startup environment
