Founded in 2009, our mission is to break down any barrier, education or otherwise, for those trying to achieve their career aspirations. We started with test prep for the GMAT (a standardized test for aspiring MBA students). Classes and tutors cost thousands and books are ineffective, so we created an affordable, online, video-based product that students can use any time, anywhere. We’re one of the lowest price offerings, yet deliver some of the best results—and we now proudly serve over 100,000 paying customers per year across 8 exams.
We’ve raised less than $1M in 2011 and achieved profitability in 2012. We haven’t looked back since. We have 8-figure revenue and are still profitable and growing.
In addition to deeply caring about our mission and students, we care about sustainable growth and building a healthy culture. We’ve twice been named the happiest company in education, yet know there’s more we can do. About the Job
We’re committed to building and empowering a diverse team to help us achieve our goal of lowering barriers and supporting all learners. We know that many U.S. systems claiming to support actually oppress underrepresented groups, and we see that effect ripple into the work that we do (and even into the very makeup of our team).
We’ve done some work to combat these systemic barriers, but we still have a long way to go. Our team is not diverse enough and our product does not yet serve all learners equitably. We’re hoping to bring on a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging leader to help us actively combat injustice and amplify and elevate underrepresented voices.
This can either be an in-office or remote role (i.e., work from anywhere in the U.S.)! For those in the SF Bay Area, the salary range is $140,000 - $173,000, depending on experience. If you are considering working remotely, please let us know in your application and we can provide your specific location’s salary range. You must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Here’s what we’ve done so far:

- Engaged with a 3rd party (Peoplism) to conduct a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging audit to further review all our processes (including hiring, performance, pay, and more) and built a roadmap for supporting our employees, especially those underrepresented in tech and higher education

- Committed to fully living out our mission, partnering with and offering free and heavily discounted test prep to non-profit organizations supporting underserved communities

You will serve as our DEIB leader, providing a consultative and critical DEIB lens to every aspect of our business: from people operations, to marketing, to product development. What will you do in this position?
- Lead our teams in continual learning and dismantling of injustice
- Facilitate workshops and learning sessions (and / or bring in external consultants) to educate teammates on important DEIB topics (e.g., recognizing biases and dismantling them)
- Serve as a role model and coach for communication and problem solving around difficult DEIB issues
- Assess our current processes and champion strategic DEIB efforts
- Work with our Operations team to ensure our internal processes promote an equitable and inclusive work environment for all teammates
- Work with various teams to improve our processes and transform our team from “not being racist” to being actively anti-racist
- Own our annual DEIB report card
- Partner closely with stakeholders across the company, adding a thoughtful DEIB lens to all areas of our work
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering, advising on how to ensure our products equitably serve all students
- Consult with Marketing, creating a framework for auditing and publishing inclusive campaigns and content
- Work with Content Marketing and PR, establishing Magoosh as a DEIB thought leader in the online education space
How is this role different from other DEIB positions out there right now?
- You’ll have the resources and authority to make real change
- You’ll be joining a team motivated to keep learning more about true equity and inclusion
- You’ll report directly to Peter, our VP of Operations
- You’ll be an integral and invaluable consultant to all departments and exam functions, who will need to account for your partnership in metrics and strategic plans they’re accountable for
What projects might you work on?
- In the first 2 to 3 months…
- You’ll review the Peoplism audit, helping us execute and looking for additional gaps. You’ll audit our culture and values, our services, our marketing, our language, etc. (with a lens towards Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) to help identify gaps in where we are and where we want to be. Depending on that audit, you’ll work with leaders to prioritize what we should tackle first.
- You’ll add to our roadmap for the year ahead, prioritizing projects based on your expertise and understanding of Magoosh more broadly.
