The opportunity
As a Facilities Technician within our Real Estate and Global Site Operations Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of all buildings, manufacturing, research and development, office facilities, machinery, and equipment. This role focuses on hands-on work and does not include management or supervisory responsibilities. Activities include a) Working with manufacturing & engineering teams to plan efficient utilization of manufacturing /R&D space, facilities, layouts & modifications, planning, coordinating, and installation of new high-volume manufacturing equipment and removal of obsolete equipment, b) Assisting internal facilities staff and external vendors in the areas of facilities maintenance & repair, Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing c) Assist in construction build-outs and decommissioning of Magic Leap offices & manufacturing/R&D facilities.
What you’ll do
- Conduct routine inspections of building systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, to ensure proper functioning.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on facility equipment, including lighting, doors, and appliances
- Monitor and respond to building automation systems and alarms to maintain optimal conditions
- Perform troubleshooting of basic issues with equipment and infrastructure, escalating more complex problems to senior technicians
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of mechanical rooms, storage areas, and other operational spaces
- Perform general upkeep tasks, such as replacing filters, checking water systems, and ensuring safety compliance
- Support event or office setup needs by ensuring equipment is properly positioned and functional
- Supervise and communicate with vendors and contractors for repairs or deliveries, ensuring adherence to facility protocols
- Assist to ensure cleanroom, lab, and office spaces meet strict regulatory and operational standards
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of major equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and seamless integration with the manufacturing process. This includes infrastructure related to the equipment, such as deionized water systems, acid waste neutralization systems, process gasses and chemicals, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed, report accidents and injuries promptly, and participate in safety meetings and training.
The experience you bring
- 3+ years of professional experience in Facilities Operations, preferably in semiconductor, manufacturing, biomedical science facilities or a similar environment
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, as well as general building maintenance practices
- Proficient troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for various facility-related issues
- Excellent understanding and application of safety standards
- Customer-centric approach with a proactive, on-the-ground attitude tailored for the demands of a factory environment
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and automated control systems
It’s exciting if you also have
- Hands-on experience with process gasses, chemicals, and navigating cleanroom environments
- Skilled in coordinating and overseeing external contractors and vendors
- Advanced or technical degree in electrical, mechanical, plumbing disciplines, controls, etc.
Additional Requirements
- On-Call Schedule: 7–10 days/month, weekdays 5 PM–7 AM, and 24-hour coverage on weekends and holidays.
- Adherence to a flexible work schedule, accommodating operational needs spanning from (7am-4pm, or 8am-5pm)
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy objects
- Flexibility to travel approximately 10% of the time, whether for training or additional support
