Job Description

Magic Leap, Inc. is seeking a Principal / Lead Software Engineer to focus on building Augmented Reality (AR) Cloud Backends to support Unity applications for shared AR experiences.  This position will offer you the chance to work closely with cross-platform software engineers to design, develop, debug and deploy many functional aspects of the systems used to enable shared, interactive 3D experiences across multiple players.  If you are a fast-learner with a positive attitude and a strong passion for working with new technology, come join the Solutions Design team in redefining the way people experience the world and each other through unique AR technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of developers building AR cloud backends for Unity applications
  • Track and report on project status, plan architecture, and present product vision
  • Be a subject matter expert in cloud networking, with an ability to communicate ideas effectively to the team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the wider organization on areas of shared interest
  • Work on bug fixing and performance improvements
  • Contribute to team success through code and architectural reviews, as well as cross-departmental presentations

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software development experience with GoLang, C++ and C# 
  • 3+ years of experience implementing networked, realtime applications
  • Docker, docker-compose, Terraform, Kubernetes, GCP experience required
  • Significant experience optimizing network traffic, message structures, bandwidth
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment
  • Experience with realtime/game server development and deployment
  • Exceptional ability to write efficient, clean, maintainable and portable code
  • Strong proven experience in implementing and deploying efficient server-side code
  • Interest in working across client/server to integrate our tools into user-facing applications

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of Photon Unity and Photon Realtime SDK 
  • Experience with development for Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), or other forms of head mounted displays (HMDs) a plus

Education

  • Bachelor/Master's degree in Computer Science or relevant field, or equivalent experience

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus, equity, and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.
US Base Salary Range
$162,000—$227,000 USD
