Job Description
This position is for a Senior Optical Simulation Engineer working in Magic Leap’s Optical Engineering eyepiece design team. Magic Leap has industry leading technology for the simulation and fabrication of advanced displays for augmented reality. The Optical Simulation Engineer will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining custom simulation software developed internally to Magic Leap, which runs on local as well as high performance computing environments. This position will identify and implement new capabilities, continue to improve simulation performance metrics, also support multiple technical users inside the company.
Responsibilities:
A key member of the OE eyepiece design team with a focus on enhancing and maintaining our core custom simulation capability
Incorporation of new tools, methods, algorithms, etc. as may be relevant
Use of our custom software in carrying out complex simulation and design tasks
Improvement of simulation performance metrics
Application of software best practices to the software control and evolution process
Supporting a user base on multiple platforms
Qualifications:
Must be able to code in C++, Python
Must possess understanding of EM simulation methodologies, e.g. RCWA, FDTD, Physical Optics, Ray tracing
Must possess knowledge of high performance cloud computing utilization, e.g. AWS
Must possess understanding of high performance scientific computing and parallelization methodologies
Experience with Matlab strongly preferred
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Focused on problem resolution and delivering solutions.
Must be able to communicate and work well with multidisciplinary groups.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are required.
Education:
MS or Ph.D. in optics, physics or related fields, with 3+ (MS) or 1 (Ph.D.) years of industry experience in optical components or sub-systems.
