Magic Leap seeks a Senior Material Scientist with polymer background for materials characterization and design group. Materials scientist works on development of new polymers as well as evaluate their behavior under different conditions using a range of scientific instruments. The results of these tests are used by companies to improve the performance of existing products, to eliminate faults with materials already in use, and to help with the development of new technologies. This work is a critical part of Magic Leap production and research and development processes.
Conduct research into the structures and properties of polymeric materials, especially thermoset resins and adhesives in order to obtain information that could be used to develop new products or enhance existing ones.
Experience with a broad range of thermo-mechanical test methods for polymer characterization and their application to materials evaluation and selection.
Devise testing methods to evaluate the effects of various environments (processing, humidity, mechanical stress, etc.) on materials.
Perform calibration and maintenance of instruments.
Accurate record keeping and data entry.
Analyzing test results and writing reports for project engineers and managers.
Work closely with engineers and scientists from other fields, such as mechanical, electronic or optical engineering.
Deep knowledge of thermoset polymers and their structure property relationship.
Strong background on radiation polymerization is preferred.
Broad experience with polymer synthesis or processing.
Understand the knowledge of Thermal (DSC and TGA) and Mechanical Analyses (Tensile, DMA, TMA and Rheometer)
Experience with material modeling is beneficial.
Analyze and communicate materials data in a clear, organized manner and make recommendations that allow for informed decision making
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Capable of working on multiple tasks and projects.
Highly detail oriented and self-motivated.
Applicant must have good basic laboratory skills related to consistent experiment methodology and safety.
Master’s degree in a Material science, chemical engineering or related field
4+ years of related work experience or PhD degree with +2 years.
