The Layout Engineer is responsible for translating designs into physical implementations by applying knowledge of fabrication processes to create design drawings, specifications, and software tools. Our cutting edge designs have grown increasingly complex, and do not conform to the assumptions typically made by standard lithography tools, so a great deal of creativity and ingenuity is required to convert a design into something physically realizable. This individual will collaborate with design engineers, process engineers, and software tool developers to maximally leverage our process capabilities. You will also assist in the automation of processes where possible, developing software algorithms to perform pattern generation, layout, and design rule checking.
Translate designs into large, high data density layouts with complex geometries
Interface with vendors to ensure the designs are made accurately
Further develop and extend existing layout tools to improve data and time efficiency and to handle new types of designs
Develop error checking capabilities in the custom data generation software
Interface with downstream internal customers to ensure that their requirements are included and addressed in designs and layouts
Automate key tasks wherever possible
Producing mechanical drawings
Extensive experience working with DXF formats.
Extensive experience working with GDS, MEBES, or OASIS formats.
Micro/nanofabrication background (clean room experience, optical and e-beam lithography)
Computational geometry (understanding of geometric predicates and implementation)
Command line proficiency (comfortable using command line tools all day)
Applied math/numerical analysis
Knowledge of SEMI standards
Experience with Nanophotonics
OpenGL and graphics
Education: Minimum BS degree in Engineering, Math or Physics with 2 years experience, MS degree preferred
