Job Description

Audio Designers at Magic Leap are responsible for designing, creating, recording, producing, mixing and implementing sound, voice, and music in Mixed Reality experiences. You will work with cross-disciplinary teams supporting the integration of music, sound design, dialogue and audio behaviors as well as a small team dedicated to developing innovative audio tools and workflows for a cutting edge Mixed Reality platform.

The ideal candidate is passionate about interactive audio and has a deep understanding of it, is a quick and enthusiastic learner, an excellent problem solver, and embraces both the creative and technical challenges that arise at the interstices of new frontiers in computing, audio, and interactive entertainment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, create, record, produce, mix and implement sound, dialog, and music for both interactive and linear experiences
  • Use game audio middleware and game engines to implement audio into Mixed Reality experiences
  • Participate in designing audio systems and behaviors
  • Work with cross-disciplinary teams to understand the needs of the projects, and find solutions to challenges
  • Collaborate with audio programmers and technical sound designers to design and implement innovative audio behaviors
  • Conduct field recordings to gather source material
  • Maintain Magic Leap’s sound library
  • Test and debug audio in Mixed Reality experiences

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of industry-related game audio experience
  • 5+ years of audio recording, processing and mixing skills
  • Mastery of current pro audio tools (digital audio workstations, microphones, outboard gear)
  • Expertise with current game engines (Unity/Unreal) as well as middleware (Wwise, FMOD, Fabric)
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-disciplined
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Ability to provide and accept critical feedback in a professional manner

Preferred (Nice to Have)

  • Programming/scripting skills is a plus
  • Familiarity with Procedural Sound Design (PD, Max MSP)
  • Ability to play a traditional musical instrument
  • Experience implementing and mixing for 3D spatialized audio and interactive environments
  • Familiarity with Perforce and other source control
  • Familiarity with Unreal Blueprints
  • Live/Concert audio support

Education:

Music Technology related university degree or equivalent experience
