About the Position

Lygos is seeking a skilled Research Associate, Analytical to receive, log, and prepare as many as 200 samples per day for various types of analysis. This process may require subdividing samples into multiple replicates to allow for individual processing, performing dilutions, and conducting chemical pre-treatment depending on the tests being performed. Upon completion of tests, the Research Associate, Analytical will deduce the data into reports using Google Sheets or Excel, and present the reports to our customers. The successful candidate will have experience with HPLC techniques and data management and manipulation. This person should have strong organizational and communication skills, as well as an enthusiasm for troubleshooting hardware instrumentation. In the future, this person will also have the opportunity to assist in method development and metabolic profiling. 

 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and prepare up to 200 samples per day from our internal customers in Biology, Fermentation, and Downstream Processing
  • Utilize various HPLC techniques to perform organic and amino acid tests
  • Process data, generate data reports, and present reports to customer
  • Troubleshoot analytical equipment as needed and resolve equipment issues efficiently to minimize equipment downtime
  • Refresh stock, media, and solutions used in the efforts of calibration
  • Maintain instrumentation including priming/purging pump systems, performing calibrations, and replacing aged tubing, mobile phase buffers, filters, guard column hardware, and lamps/bulbs
  • Work collaboratively with scientists / engineers in Lygos’ other departments including biology, fermentation, and downstream processing
  • Present results and work plans at weekly group meetings
  • Work closely with all employees to support career development and facilitate the learning of new skill sets

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • B.S. or equivalent degree in a related field with 2+ years of hands-on HPLC experience, or M.S with equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience running assays for small molecules, organic acids, and/or amino acids
  • Experience with data manipulation and management 
  • Strong organization skills and proven ability to manage details
  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and collaboration
  • Energetic, creative, team player
  • Experience in a synthetic biology / biotech startup a plus
  • Experience with Google Script, SQL, and/or Power Platform a plus
  • LIMS experience a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining analytical instrumentation a plus
