The Avionics team at Loon is responsible for delivering a hardware and software solution for the flight vehicle portion of the balloon. This involves a large number of embedded nodes that make up systems for satellite communication, altitude control (balloon steering), power collection, storage, and distribution, and more.
Collaborate with software engineers to define and architect, optimize, draft schematics, and layout PCBs for next generation Avionics systems
Perform hardware bringup, qualification/validation tests, and productionize new hardware
Design & implement testing and monitoring of systems for pre-flight and in-flight environments, as well as failure analysis of hardware issues.
BS degree in Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
Experience designing & testing embedded systems, including schematic capture and PCB layout
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Experience using Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout
Familiarity with communication protocols (Ethernet, CAN, I2C, and SPI), common avionics sensors (temperature, pressure, GPS, IMUs, etc), and associated RF components (antennas, etc)
Experience with designing robust systems that are hardened for extreme environments
Experience with real time operating systems, C, C++, Python, and protobuf
