WHAT YOU’LL DO AS A TECHNICAL PROJECT MANAGER

The Project Manager will act as the control tower for software development. The primary responsibility of this role will be to facilitate the efficient completion of software projects. The secondary focus will be to improve our process of software development. The Project Manager will support software engineers in the completion of projects on schedule that delight our users and meet our product goals.

  • Lead third-party software implementation projects and back office capabilities (Netsuite) in addition to external facing web/ecommerce projects (littlebits.cc)

  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Run our user-facing product sprint cycles -- backlog grooming; sprint planning, estimations, and commitments; manage JIRA, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

    • Evaluate and drive resolution for any release blockers that surface, communicating impact to affected team members

  • Coordinate development across the software organization:

    • Clarify project scope and goals, if not well defined

    • Work closely with product managers on sprint and release priorities

    • Use Agile approach with software engineering development cycles

    • Develop and maintain larger workplans including resource and milestone planning

    • Foster smooth collaboration across product management, design, and engineering across all phases of development

    • Provide leadership identifying and defining problems, evaluating and recommending solutions

    • Be a go-to contact for dependent teams such as Physical Product, Marketing, Customer Service

    • Provide regular updates to stakeholders and dependent teams. Communicate possible changes with stakeholders to drive any decision-making needed, and to ensure everyone’s expectations line up with project delivery

  • Work closely with software product, design, and engineering leaders to optimize the development cycle and quality of our products

    • Identify parts of the process that are inefficient or missing, devise and prioritize solutions, and work with all teams to implement and iterate improvements

    • Socialize the software product development process with partner teams throughout the company

  • Define metrics around project management success and measure these quarterly, including minimizing hot fixes, firedrills, and increasing development velocity

  • Create appropriate Business Requirements Documents for projects involving distributed stakeholders/departments.

 

THE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE YOU’LL NEED TO BE A TECHNICAL PROJECT MANAGER

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders while being detail-oriented and effective at time management

  • Natural interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and persuade without direct authority

  • Known for taking initiative and thriving in a startup environment

  • Ability to problem solve, distill and prioritize decisions in collaboration with others

  • Ability to understand technical concepts, business objectives, evaluate and articulate tradeoffs

  • Experience with Agile SCRUM and other software development methods

  • Experience with JIRA and other planning and communication tools

  • Experience with software development and working with creative staff. Integrated software/ hardware development experience a bonus.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management information systems, computer science or related discipline
