Lightmatter is leading the revolution in AI data center infrastructure, enabling the next giant leaps in human progress. The company invented the world’s first 3D-stacked photonics engine, Passage™, capable of connecting thousands to millions of processors at the speed of light in extreme-scale data centers for the most advanced AI and HPC workloads.
Lightmatter raised $400 million in its Series D round, reaching a valuation of $4.4 billion. We will continue to accelerate the development of data center photonics and grow every department at Lightmatter!
If you're passionate about tackling complex challenges, making an impact, and being an expert in your craft, join our team of brilliant scientists, engineers, and accomplished industry leaders.
Lightmatter is (re)inventing the future of computing with light!
About this Role
In this role, you will be defining the SoC architecture for a ground-breaking platform that integrates our high performance silicon-photonics-based network fabric with a custom machine learning accelerator. You will also work closely with our software, hardware and photonics teams to define and optimize the features needed to accelerate the next generation of machine learning algorithms.
The SoC Architect will create a blueprint for a Passage-first compute solution. This cross-disciplinary project brings together our experts in Software, Photonics, Systems, Packaging, Networking, and SoC Design to solve key design challenges in building computing solutions with Passage across servers and racks.
Responsibilities
- Define the SoC architecture for Lightmatter's next-gen product
- Author, review, and validate architectural specifications
- Actively collaborate with the hardware and software teams to perform trade-off analysis between power and performance for AI workloads on the proposed architecture
- With other architects, engage in problem solving and contributing with novel architectural ideas
Requirements
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering +8 years of industry experience, or MS degree +12 years of industry experience
- 8+ years of experience in compute ASIC architecture with an emphasis on low-power design
- 5+ years of experience with processor design, accelerators, networks, and/or memory hierarchies
- Previous experience leading and collaborating in a cross-disciplinary team in a variety of fields
- Previous experience in a fast-paced (startup) environment, with the ability to react to change
- Experience influencing decisions in a matrix environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in leading a low-power architecture project from start to commercial volume chip production in an advanced node
- Experience in post-silicon measurement with the goal of correlating with pre-silicon power forecast
- Demonstrated technical innovations with impact on AI or high-performance computing
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills in problems that do not have obvious solutions
