SMEs account for most businesses worldwide and are critical contributors to job creation and global economic development. That’s where Liberis steps in! To best help small businesses, Liberis has built the leading global embedded finance platform. Through this, Liberis provides partners with the technology and financial solutions necessary to offer personalised and accessible funding to their small business customers.

Who are we?
We are the Risk team responsible for managing the credit risk of Liberis’ portfolios, which include designing effective new strategies, managing the credit quality of our products across geographies, and providing specialist credit risk advice to the business.
The Risk team is primarily based in London with colleagues in Atlanta, US and Stockholm, Sweden too and covers Risk Analytics, Decision Science and Underwriting. Our mission is to grow Liberis profitably to become the leading embedded business finance provider and we are now looking for an Underwriter to join us on this journey.
Who are you?
You are someone that is excited by the prospect of a challenge, appreciate autonomy and the space to generate your own ideas and are passionate about finance that serves to support small businesses, not just turn a profit.
Reporting to the Head of Underwriting and based out of our Atlanta office you will be responsible for underwriting new finance proposals that both protect and deliver value to Liberis. You will have the opportunity to use your experience to enhance our underwriting process while ensuring we stay within the organisation’s risk appetite.
Responsibilities
- Underwriting new and repeat business requests, investigating multiple different pieces of information to make sound, rational decisions.
- Direct liaison with prospective customers to obtain additional information as well as potentially relaying approve/decline decisions.
- Acting as a referral point for internal stakeholders, specifically focused around ensuring the correct policies and procedures are being followed.
- Constantly challenging the way in which we underwrite to ensure we always have the right balance between customer experience and protecting Liberis from any potential risk.
We think you'll need
- Previous experience in an underwriting role, particularly small business finance
- Confident in making decisions and being able to articulate these effectively
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to convey complex findings in a logical and easy-to-understand style
- Ability to refocus as needed to support a rapidly growing and evolving company
