Job Description
Leland Saylor Associates (LSA) has an opportunity for a Junior Cost Estimator to join our team to work on high profile, $20 million to $1 billion programs at our headquarters in Walnut Creek, CA. We are proud to be the cost advisor on some of the largest, most technically complex projects in the nation specializing in airports, justice facilities, laboratories, healthcare, education, and infrastructure projects. Leland Saylor is also known for our industry leading cost manuals, used by owners and construction professionals throughout the US.
The junior-level estimator will develop the ability to produce meticulous estimates during design and construction phases. Types of services will be primarily design phase estimating, peer review/validation, and on-site change order estimating for commercial and institutional building programs as well as other projects.
Daily Duties
- Perform accurate, thorough and timely quantity takeoffs during all phases of document development (schematic design, design development and construction phase documents).
- Prepare full and complete project estimates in both CSI and Uniformat as required during Pre-construction.
- Obtain clarifications on plans and specifications from architects and engineers when necessary.
- Assist the estimating team in soliciting and analyzing subcontractor and vendor pricing.
- Ability to identify, track and assess cost saving opportunities for the client.
- Develop and tracks current market and historical unit costs accurately.
- Participate in plan and estimate review meetings, other project review meetings, and site investigations, as needed

Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years job experience estimating a variety of building types (for example: office, medical, aviation, educational, etc.), with projects in excess of $5M.
- B.S. in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or related field preferred
- Excellent MS Excel skills.
- Able to take direction to create estimates.
- Ask questions to learn the estimating process quickly and simplify complex processes.
- Energetic and dedicated, self-starter.
- Motivated to achieve results, take feedback, and continually learn to improve processes.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
