As the Manager of Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of our financial reporting processes. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements, compliance with regulatory requirements, and adherence to accounting standards. Additionally, you will provide technical accounting expertise to support complex transactions and initiatives undertaken by the company.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and SEC regulations
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial reports and disclosures for submission to regulatory authorities, including the SEC and Canadian regulatory bodies
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reports through rigorous review and analysis

Technical Accounting:

  • Stay abreast of developments in accounting standards and regulations, particularly those relevant to publicly traded companies
  • Participate in all general accounting tasks as required, including tax credits, income tax preparation, etc.
  • Evaluate the accounting treatment for complex transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions, investments, and debt/equity financings

Compliance and Internal Controls:

  • Monitor compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements and assist in the design and implementation of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Collaborate with internal audit and external auditors to facilitate audits and reviews of financial statements and internal controls
  • Identify areas for process improvements and efficiency gains within the financial reporting function

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with finance, legal, and other departments to support business initiatives and transactions from a financial reporting perspective
  • Provide technical accounting expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams involved in strategic projects and transactions
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on financial reporting matters and contribute to decision-making processes across the organization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial reporting and technical accounting, preferably in a publicly traded company or public accounting firm
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, SEC regulations, and Canadian accounting standards
  • Experience with complex accounting transactions, such as business combinations, revenue recognition, and stock-based compensation
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functional areas and influence decision-making
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
