Software powers the world, and LaunchDarkly empowers all teams to deliver and control the best software. We serve hundreds of billions of feature flags daily, to help teams ship better software, faster and eliminate risk for companies big and small.
We're based in downtown Oakland and growing quickly. You'll help us tackle some of the most challenging engineering problems around, like delivering feature flags to hundreds of millions of users all over the world in milliseconds.
About the Job
LaunchDarkly is looking for an experienced engineering leader who can enable the engineering teams scaling our infrastructure, platform and internal developer tooling. We are serving trillions of flags to tens of millions of connected clients daily and growing aggressively.
You'll lead engineers in the development of the LaunchDarkly platform and creating the organization and operational processes to support it. Your team will focus on driving scalability, stability, reliability, operability of services, and security.
We are looking for someone who can comfortably bridge software, systems and operational engineering to keep LaunchDarkly running smoothly and scaling efficiently through this growth. Your teams will design and implement infrastructure, monitor and evolve it and solve devilish problems in production. Your team will also ensure that new developers get up and running in minutes, that every developer is building efficiently, and that changes flow smoothly from laptop to production.
You have experience building teams and nurturing team members. In addition to technical acumen and experience with high demand services or apps, you will bring experience recruiting, hiring and building teams while optimizing them for execution. You understand the demands of managing a 24x7 application at large scale and can help grow a team to meet those ever-increasing demands.
What You'll Get to Do:
Lead engineers working at LaunchDarkly, at different layers of the stack, on the operational challenges related to scalability, reliability, performance and efficiency of our systems.
Set goals and hold constraints to ensure the health and continuing improvement of the system.
Improve the reliability, efficiency and operability of fault-tolerant distributed systems.
Help the team and other engineering leaders to continuously improve our operating processes.
Ensure we run a cost-effective service, monitor and make changes to hit spending targets.
Ensure we have the tools in place to observe and understand our systems in production.
Help your team balance keeping a healthy service with long-term, high-impact investments.
Work directly with the other Engineering Directors, the SVP of Engineering and CTO and your team to define and evolve our architecture.
Drive technical architecture and process decisions to ensure the continued health of the overall system.
Help build a diverse and highly skilled team able to keep up with a rapidly growing product.
On day one, you should have:
Experience building and maintaining real-time, large-scale production systems.
Experience building on AWS and ensuring cost-effective utilization.
Experience leading teams and managers.
A history of setting and achieving operational goals.
