The team:

You will work with some of the world’s leading experts in network cyber security.  The team encompasses a range of expertise in network detection from low level packet sniffing to network detection and threat intelligence. Members of the team share a common passion for analysis of network traffic and the detection of security relevant activities. The team welcomes new ideas and experimentation- all team members innovate to improve the detection capabilities of the system.

The job:

You will be directly involved in the development and maintenance of the Lastline Network Sensor, your specific focus will be in email analysis and detection. Email has become an extremely important propagation vector for all types of threats, ranging from ransomware to targeted attacks and as such this is a critical role on the team. Traditional approaches focus on the analysis of email content and fall short of detecting more sophisticated and targeted attacks. Your focus will be not just the content, but also of the context in which the email appears. You will use Machine Learning techniques as well as other techniques identify anomalous messages in a customer network. The successful candidate will have excellent software development skills and passion for network security with a good experience in machine learning techniques and interest in following advances in current academic research.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent Python development skills, and basic knowledge of Ruby/Puppet.
  • Experience in Linux development and system tools (including use and configuration of postfix, sendmail, etc).
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of large code bases.
  • Exposure using machine learning tools.
  • Strong analytic thinking as well as the ability to understand and work reliably and responsibly in large codebases.
  • Comfortable working with a geographically distributed team.
  • BSCS or equivalent.

The following skills and experience are not required, but will strengthen a candidate’s position:

  • Experience in network security research.
  • Experience in email analysis and security.
