The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

Associate, Public Transportation:

LA28’s Associate, Public Transportation will coordinate the overall development and implementation of LA28’s TRA projects, by managing a complex collaboration across LA28’s functional areas and external partners while maintaining credibility and ensuring key milestones are met. This role will provide project management support for the Games Mobility Executives and the Transportation functional area. This candidate will deliver tracking for milestones across the TRA Functional Area (FA), provide high level administrative support and provide project management and eventual delivery of projects with the Games Mobility Executive (Caltrans, Metro, LA28, Metrolink, LADOT, LA Mayors Office, SCAG). This candidate should be proactive, organized with strong communication skills.  LA28’s Associate, Public Transportation will report directly to LA28’s Sr, Manager, Public Transportation while working closely with the leaders across LA28’s Functional Areas. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Assistance: Assist in monitoring overall Games transportation milestones and deliverables, as well as assist in providing progress reports and updates to FA leadership and/or the Games Mobility Executives
  • Technical Analysis: Provide technical analysis to determine specific operational components of the spectator and workforce transportation system, the Games Route Network (GRN), Games Mobility Hubs, and other critical Games-related transportation components.
  • Data Analysis: Provide technical assistance for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting transportation data to optimize logistics operations, improve efficiency, and support strategic decision-making. This will be both spatially (via GIS) as well as via spreadsheet applications & other data visualization tools.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare meeting materials, agendas, minutes, and presentation decks to support the development and refinement of the spectator and workforce transportation system.
  • Communication:  
    • Participate in meetings with key public agency partners and Federal/State agency staff to obtain funding for critical Games transportation needs.
    • Assist in developing, editing, and refining communications materials prepared for or in support of community outreach and engagement activities related to Games transportation.
  • FA Leadership Support: Provide comprehensive administrative support to executives, including calendar management, meeting coordination, travel arrangements, and expense reporting.
  • Scheduling & Coordination: Manage schedules and organize internal and external meetings, conference calls, and events, ensuring that all logistics are planned and executed seamlessly. 

Background & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in transportation planning, design, construction, operations, and/or maintenance, particularly as a part of a public transportation agency or similar preferred.
  • Business acumen with strategic thinking and project management skills.
  • Ability to create effective relationships, influence, and collaborate at all organizational levels and across all partner groups.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to educate others on complex technical concepts, and to lead, facilitate, and present to large and small groups.
  • Ability to gather and assess data and produce technical reports and/or presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)  
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a proactive approach to problem-solving. 
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.
  • Experience using ArcGIS or similar mapping software (desirable) 
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) 

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master's degree in transportation planning or engineering, urban planning, or related field/equivalent work experience. 

Expectations:

  • Experience working in a transit agency federal, state or local government or working on projects delivered in the public realm is preferred
  • Experience in Event planning or large-scale project management is preferred
  • Passion for sports, community engagement, or involvement in large-scale events.  

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • The position is located in Los Angeles with in-person attendance required at least four days per week.
  • Frequent travel in Los Angeles between public agency offices, venues and other sites. Must be responsible for own travel any mode okay.
  • The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment, employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.  
  • Occasionally there may be a requirement for working hours outside of traditional business hours/days to support special events, travel, and the 2028 Games.

The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $75,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.

LA28 does not provide relocation assistance.
