The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

Director, Broadcast Services:

The Games Planning & Delivery group aims to deliver the most seamless, innovative, and engaging Games experience ever for all athletes, fans, partners, and the community.  The Games Planning & Delivery team is currently organized in four key areas including Venue Infrastructure, Venue Management, Revenue & Commercial, and Games Operations, but will expand to over 30 functional areas by Games time. 

The Broadcast Services team is responsible for delivering high quality facilities and services to the Media Rights Holders and the Olympic Broadcast Service to ensure the best possible media coverage of the Games to the widest possible audience. This team must liaise closely with the Olympic Broadcast Service to manage the planning process relating to broadcasting the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This includes agreeing procedures, hosting meetings and workshops, conducting surveys – all of which are developed and established in full coordination with the between the Olympic Broadcast Service and LA28 Broadcast Services. In addition, the Broadcast Services team is the main point of contact with the other LA28 functional areas concerning all broadcast matters. Such matters include the successful delivery of all infrastructure at competition venues and the International Broadcast Center to enable the coverage of the Games and the delivery of services to the Olympic Broadcast Service and media rights holders to support their operations – such as accommodation, accreditation, transportation, information, technology, technical support, warehousing, permitting, medical services, and other services at Games time.

Reporting to the VP, Games Delivery & Venue Infrastructure, the Director of Broadcast Services will be responsible for creation, planning and execution of the Broadcast Services functional area – including liaising with the Olympic Broadcast Service and LA28 functional areas on all broadcast planning matters and ensuring that all requirements are met for the successful coverage of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. To progress planning, this role will collaborate across all internal departments, external stakeholders, partner entities, and consultants to enable and deliver all broadcast services in the lead up to the Games Period and throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Hire, train, motivate, and evaluate department staff
  • Develop and adhere to departmental budget with clear steps to implement, monitor, and appropriately measure deliverables
  • Develop a clear growth plan for the department from present through Games time
  • Balance operational considerations with cost and revenue impacts
  • Support overall media services ahead of the hiring of a Press Services Role

Primary Point of Contact for Olympic Broadcast Service (OBS)

  • Liaise with the Olympic Broadcast Service for all broadcast planning efforts
  • Spearhead planning and delivery of all World Broadcaster Meetings & Briefings
  • Support all information exchange and deliverable submissions to OBS
  • Understand, review and optimize all broadcast delivery requirements with OBS

Management & Oversight of all Broadcast Services at LA28

  • Serve as the main point of contact for all LA28 functional areas on broadcast matters
  • Coordinate all milestones and deliverables for broadcast with LA28 functional areas, the Olympic Broadcast Service (OBS), IOC, IPC and Media Rights Holders (as appropriate)
  • Support all infrastructure and technical planning for broadcast services, including venue development of broadcast areas at competition venues, non-competition venues, & International Broadcast Center
  • Serve as primary counterpart for all local delivery partners for broadcast venues

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Establish close working relationships with key functional areas (especially Venue Infrastructure, Venue Management, Technology, Hospitality & Ticketing, Games Operations, etc.) to ensure that all broadcast planning and services align with cross-functional planning timelines and objectives – e.g., close coordination with Ticketing & Hospitality for all broadcast needs and requirements in the Seating Bowl Working Group
  • Work with the OBS, IOC and IPC to understand all requirements, get strategic buy-in, expedite approval processes where necessary and achieve optimizations where possible

 

Expectations:

  • Minimum 10-years of relevant industry experience, preferably with 5 years of leadership experience in broadcast production and operations for the sport or live event industry
  • Experience working international broadcast organizations providing global coverage
  • Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders and proven success at building excellent working relationships
  • Experience working with senior executives across multiple functional areas
  • Excellent leadership skills with track record of people development and revenue achievement
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging 
  • Experience implementing communication strategies that are accessible and inclusive to a diverse audience, including considerations for language diversity and accessibility for people with disabilities.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills

  • Fluent working with Office suite products including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000.00 - $170,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
