Childcare is a major pain. Every parent knows it. That’s why Koru Kids is building the world’s best childcare service, starting in London. We’re on a mission to profoundly improve the wellbeing of 1 million families in the next 5 years.
Parents who use our service LOVE it, and we’re growing super fast. We’re backed by fantastic investors, including top venture capitalists and business angels, and we’ve won a bunch of awards. We’re so proud of what we’ve built so far, but we’re only just getting started, with massive plans for 2020 and beyond.
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from parents and non-parents alike. We are supportive of flexible working patterns.
The team and culture
We have an informal, hard-working and kind team culture. We’re all passionate about our mission and are determined to create a genuinely fantastic childcare service to help working parents. Our culture is friendly and fast-paced – we are continually challenging, testing and adapting the way we do things. We’re also really committed to working with integrity, doing the right thing and building a company we are truly proud of. We’re growing super fast, but we also want to make sure that we are building a company on rock-solid foundations.
We take great care with whom we hire, and all team members are superbly talented and really nice. If you’re brilliant AND humble, you’ll fit right in.
Our COO is looking for an experienced finance director to be the leader on all things finance within Koru Kids.
You’ll partner with leaders across the company and bring smarter financial insights to the decision-making table. Your responsibilities will include financial planning and analysis, owning the budgeting and forecasting process, general business modelling, and profitability analysis. Understanding the world through unit economics, scenario analysis and cash-modelling will be your strength. We’re looking for a thought partner - someone highly analytical, a fast learner (we don’t expect you to know everything, but we do expect that you’ll be able to figure it out), and comfortable working at a fast pace.
You’ll play a key role in creating an effective company structure that accounts for multiple business lines, is tax optimised, and able to be expanded geographically outside London. We have aspirations to expand internationally in the future.
You’ll also be responsible for making sure we’re spending money with transparency and control. We have robust foundational financial controls and processes in place. As we continue to grow, you have full remit to create new processes, introduce new technologies, make suggestions, and determine how we can do things better.
You won’t be alone in this endeavour, as you’ll lead and coach a rising finance super-star on the team and also partner with external accountants, the COO and the board.
This opportunity is a great place to learn and develop a strong track record as a finance leader in a high growth start-up, ahead of working in a more senior role with us (as our future CFO?!) or elsewhere.
Working flexibly (hours and location) in this role is fine. We’re an ambitious and kind team, and understand that traditional working arrangements don’t suit everyone - hence why we’re also trying to solve childcare woes for our customers! Many people in the team excel in their role using a combination of remote and in-person work, with flexible hours as needed.
We’re after an ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified professional who is clever, practical, positive and nice. You don’t need to be a pure finance professional and can have an eclectic past.
You’ll likely have 5-10+ years of work experience, including a stint at a professional services firm (management consulting, finance or accounting) with additional experience as a finance leader within a high growth tech firm.
Experience in Financial Planning and Analysis is desirable. Experience in marketplaces or childcare would be a bonus.
Regardless of your background, we’ll be looking for evidence of drive and aspiration, leadership, impact and achievement.
Essential skills we require of ALL team members
- You’re emotionally intelligent
- You’re a problem-solver. You can break complexity into smaller bite-sized pieces and enjoy solving difficult challenges
- You love working with numbers, data and problem-solving. Spreadsheets are your friend. We love people who love analysis
- You love improving things and are curious by nature. You can create new processes, make suggestions, and tell us we’re doing things wrong
- You roll with it. You understand that startups are unpredictable environments. You are comfortable with a degree of chaos
- You’re nice. You get that no player is bigger than the team. You fit right into our culture of supporting and helping each other
- You’re detail-oriented. You’ll be working in a complex system, and the details must be 100% correct
- You’re able to write clearly, simply and accurately
- You can work at a fast pace and under pressure
In the current climate, this role will start as 100% remote working.
