The Role

We have built the KONUX Predictive Maintenance System for Rail Switches, the first AI-based solution for the rail industry. As a Lead Data Science Software Developer at KONUX, you will be the bridge between the Data Science Team and the Back-End / DevOps teams. Working with the data scientists, you will be responsible for bringing statistical analysis techniques and AI algorithms to our production environment. You will take pride in developing efficient, maintainable and scalable code for use both by the production engineering team as well as internally by the Data Science team. Further, you will be contributing to algorithm design, big-data analysis, and improvement of the existing code-base. Ideal candidates learn and adapt quickly and will be able to use every tool at their disposal to understand and effectively tackle hard problems.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Data Scientists working on complex research questions
  • Enable your team members to enhance their full potential by mentoring and training them, creating a space with opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • Supporting and guiding them towards success and towards being a high performing team
  • Actively participating in recruiting and growing the team
  • Bring code from a range of model development languages to a Python production environment
  • Create functional specifications for analytic products
  • Support and enhance existing Python production code-base
  • Profile and enhance performance
  • Assist with the development of novel implementations of new product features as required
  • Contribute in solving technical and agile process problems as they arise

Your Profile

  • A Phd/degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Proficiency of Spark/EMR and Hive, with AirFlow, Athena and Redis as a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Advanced knowledge of different database technologies SQL, NoSQL, object-relational databases
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques such as PCA, kernel methods and SVM
  • Ability to understand and deliver in a complex and rapidly evolving data and product environment
  • Demonstrated examples of working with business partners to deliver a solution that meets project objectives (requirements generation, functional specification generation to project execution)
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of machine learning
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills (verbal, presentation and written) 
  • Autonomous and solution-oriented working methods
  • Experience in leading, couching and mentoring teams

Nice to Have

  • Java programming experience
  • Demonstrable programming experience in application development of neural networks and deep learning
  • Experience with working in a Scrum environment
