Lead Data Scientist

Job Description:

Kobalt’s founding vision is to make the music industry fairer and more rewarding for our creators. As a Senior Data Scientist at Kobalt, you’ll share this vision, working with stakeholders and engineers across the business to build production-grade ML solutions to ensure that our creators are fairly compensated. 

With access to vast quantities of data from music streaming platforms from across the world, you’ll work with other Data Scientists and engineers on our entity linkage service to optimise royalty collection. You’ll also have the opportunity to help shape, develop and explore new opportunities in the predictive analytics, forecasting and anomaly detection space, whilst mentoring junior data scientists and contributing to data science technical strategy 


  • Degree in a technical discipline, e.g., computer science, physics, maths or related field with at least 5 years of experience as a Data Scientist
  • Python, SQL and Pyspark 
  • Launching and monitoring services in production
  • Excellent grasp of data science libraries such as pandas, numpy, scipy and sklearn
  • In-depth understanding of typical machine learning and statistical methods
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Comfortable articulating analytical results and modelling approaches clearly and concisely with a wide range of audiences
  • Thrives in a collaborative atmosphere, working with multidisciplinary teams to drive data products and solutions
  • A love of music and a keen desire to work in the Music industry

 Nice to haves:

  • Familiarity with AWS (Sagemaker) and deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow
  • Scala would be a great plus
  • Experience deploying model pipelines into a production environment
  • Understanding and experience of Bayesian inference
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Plotly Dash
