JOB SUMMARY

As a Software Engineer at Kobalt you’ll be involved in the whole development lifecycle: requirement gathering, specification, development, building, testing and deployment of our in-house system and writing fast, reliable, and clean code daily. Our new developers are always mentored by an existing and more experienced member of the team.

BACKGROUND

Kobalt’s tech platform, KTech, is currently responsible for sending worldwide notifications of all clients’ songs; and it delivers albums, singles and videos to a whole host of digital services, including iTunes, Spotify, YouTube and many others. It also licenses use of clients work in TV, Film, Games and Adverts. Once all of that has been done, it then has the not-so-small job of processing the millions of resulting payments.

This is an established yet fast growing creator-centric company of artists and songwriters including The Chainsmokers, Kelly Clarkson, Miles Davis, Dave Grohl, Lauv, Zayn Malik, Max Martin, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Pitbull, Elvis Presley, Skrillex, Sam Smith, and many more. Kobalt represents on average over 40% of the top 100 songs and albums in both the US and UK.

We’re currently 600 people based across 10 offices and we’re still growing.

WHAT DOES A JAVA SOFTWARE ENGINEER AT KOBALT DO?

You'll be working with core Java libraries, Swing UI, J2EE technologies and Apache/Tomcat, and testing with JUnit. You could be modifying or creating new third party integrations with AWS, PayPal, Docusign or others. Perhaps you’ll be adapting our processes for encoding, transcoding, and delivering master audio and video files. No one week will be like another as we strive to improve and innovate.

At all times you’ll be responsible for ensuring your changes move swiftly through our continuous integration processes, and liaising with other departments to improve their overall experience of our systems.

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?  

  • Proven and demonstrable Java programming experience
  • Experience of source control systems
  • Experience with databases and SQL
  • Experience of creating automated tests
  • Experience with Oracle databases, PL/SQL, and JDBC
  • An interest in Continuous Development and Integration
