What You’ll Do

As a Horizontal team lead (DevOps) you will be building and maintaining world-class toolchains and deployment pipelines to support our engineering teams and security/compliance efforts. Our toolchains and pipelines must catch potential problems early and promote small, fast, low-risk releases. You will use Infrastructure as Code to maintain, grow and improve our cloud infrastructure to ensure system availability, performance, and reliability. You will also help us secure, monitor and defend our infrastructure and bake SecOps into our pipelines. Examples of duties and responsibilities we’ll entrust to you are:

  • Define cloud infrastructure strategy by working with architects, tech leads and DevOps team engineers
  • Serve as product owner for, and supervise maintenance of our cloud networking, security, CI/CD systems, toolchains and pipelines
  • Select, install, configure or, if need be, customize tools in order to:
    • Run automated tests
    • Perform static analysis
    • Scan binaries/container images for vulnerabilities
    • Build applications into well-factored, minimal container images
    • Promote, release and rollback following well-known patterns
  • Design and implement shared components and conventions for CI/CD pipelines
  • Write code to provision and manage cloud infrastructure for all environments
  • Lead efforts around disaster Recovery planning and exercises for the organization
  • Lead efforts to build and maintain Kubernetes clusters for running production, test, monitoring and DevOps workloads
  • Lead efforts to establish and maintain governance standards for cloud compliance and configuration best practices
  • Guide delivery teams on monitoring, telemetry and observability best practices and tools
  • Participate in production support and incident management process with responsibilities to cloud and CI/CD infrastructure
  • Ensure audibility and traceability of source code changes from initial commit through production and other SOC2 compliance related efforts
  • Ensure cloud spending is optimized and help control costs through configuration efforts

About You

You should be passionate about automation, quality, observability, and low-risk releases. You will need strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and should enjoy leading teams and collaborating with individuals from all parts of an organization, as well as some outside partners. You should have worked in both Development roles as well as Operations or DevOps focused roles in the past. You should desire to remain hands-on, as this is an important aspect of our technology leadership culture at Koalafi. More specifics about skills that will make you successful in this role are:

  • 4 year Computer Science or related degree
  • 10+ years relevant Development, Operations and/or Cybersecurity industry experience
  • Deep knowledge of containerization, service mesh-based architectures, and technologies in this space like Kubernetes, Istio/Linkerd, and Docker
  • Deep knowledge of delivering, maintaining and scaling applications in AWS
  • Deep knowledge of AWS networking, services, and support structures
  • Deep knowledge of Terraform for managing AWS applications and infrastructure
  • Deep knowledge of scripting languages, CI and CD tools
  • Deep knowledge of AWS SAM for building and managing Lambdas
  • Deep knowledge of log aggregation, tracing and observability tools
  • Working knowledge of cloud native design patterns
  • Working knowledge of Golang, Typescript, Python and C#
  • Working knowledge of relational/NoSQL databases and distributed caching technologies
  • Knowledgeable about industry trends and best practices as they relate to lean software and DevOps
  • Experience managing and supervising small but highly effective teams of engineers
  • Experience and willingness to teach/mentor others how to use new technologies and tools
