WE HAVE CREATED A WORLD WHERE ART AND SCIENCE ARE BEST FRIENDS

Known is a modern marketing company engineered for the unprecedented opportunities and challenges facing marketers today. We are about 200+ people strong, pairing PhD data scientists with award-winning creatives, strategists, engineers and expert research teams to produce some of the most innovative and cutting-edge creative work in culture. We believe that when creative truly collaborates with science, strategy, and technology, amazing things can happen.

Ad Age touted that “Known may be the ultimate example of a full-service agency,” and honored us with two prestigious recognitions this year: #3 on The A-List as one of the top agencies in the world, and Ad Age’s Data & Insights Agency of the year for the second year in a row. Without our incredible partnerships with our clients, spanning across the leading brands in finance, technology, entertainment, media, CPG, real estate, and many other categories, honors like this could not be possible, and also have helped us earn additional awards and recognitions over the years like: Emmys, Clios Entertainment and Sports Awards, Effies, Cannes Lions Awards, ProMax Agency of the Year, and Digiday’s Most Innovative Media Agency to name a few.

We couldn’t create this award-winning work without seeking out and hiring the best talent. What does it mean to be a Knowner? We are curious innovators, knowledge-hunters who are constantly challenging ourselves to do better and be better for our clients, for our team and for our world at large. Our offices around the U.S. are open and while most of our people work in a hybrid setting, we are a distributed workforce with a number of Knowners working remotely.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT US, LET'S TALK ABOUT YOU

About you: You define what it means to be a modern quantitative research leader. You don’t settle for what you already know. You’re proficient in the “tried & true” methods used in market research while also looking beyond them to identify, learn, and invent new approaches. You’re enthusiastic about embracing new analytical and modeling approaches, whether they are ones that you or your team identifies in academic papers…or ones that you or your team invent in-house. Your intellectual curiosity is off the charts. You’re an outgoing “quant” (you might say nerd 😊) who delivers a great presentation with gravitas. You’re a persuasive seller. You’re an inspiring, collaborative leader who attracts and develops talent. You’re a great team manager. And you’re just as happy doing research in the realm of product development, go-to-market strategy, brand strategy, media strategy, creative testing, or brand/campaign measurement.

About the role: As the leader of the Analytics department, you will be responsible for the department’s commercial, cultural, and client success. You will nurture and oversee major client relationships and research programs. You will provide leadership and mentor a diverse team and ensure their individual and collective growth and wellbeing. You will set the strategic direction for the department that inspires employees, clients, and the industry. You will partner with leaders across the Strategy practice (Analytics, Human Insights, Brand Marketing, and Social Strategy) and Known (Creative and Media) to deliver innovations, insights, and strategies that fuel modern marketing.

You’ll lead a team of Directors, Managers, Consultants, and Analysts and guide their development and growth - they will look to you for support and mentorship.

You’ll strengthen existing client relationships, and pitch winning proposals to new clients. Existing and prospective clients will be excited to work with you, and you’re excited to figure out ways to bring new business to the team.

And you’ll be part of a leadership team in Known Strategy that wants to see your vision for growth and innovation on multiple fronts - how we support the growth of our practice and overall company, how we operate as a team, and how we create the best working environment possible.

This role is right for you if:

  • You’re a world-class researcher and want to stand out as a leader in a world-class marketing firm.
  • Nothing inspires you more than working with talented and creative colleagues and helping them grow into their full potential as marketing experts
  • You are invigorated by the prospect of partnering with passionate clients trying to find breakthrough insights and strategy
  • You want to re-think the way research and marketing strategy are executed and delivered
  • You want your ideas and strategies to have limitless impact

WHAT YOU’LL DO

This is an opportunity to jump out of the traditional and into an innovative sandbox affording a huge opportunity to make an impact as a client lead, thought leader, collaborator, mentor, and practitioner. You’ll nurture a client portfolio and guide the delivery of impactful client engagements anchored in quantitative research techniques.

This is not just a traditional, formulaic research job; this opportunity is designed for someone that wants to do something bigger than market research, is driven to lead a world-class research function, and is capable of managing the commercial performance of the department to hit and exceed collective business goals.

  • Contribute as a client advisor to advance our existing client portfolio, deepen existing client relationships, and expand our footprint in the market. You’ll bring some past or present clients to Known, and you’ll help us grow new ones.
  • Guide the team to derive meaningful insights that help our clients better understand their key constituencies, where to fit into their lives, what matters to them about the brands and products, how to express their unique value to the marketplace above and beyond what the competition can do to ensure our clients deliver the right message, to the right targets, in the right channels, at the right time.
  • Develop quantitative research strategies that are aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a department of ~20 quantitative researchers, and be responsible for the growth, development, and success of the team, its culture, as well as the individuals under your leadership.
  • Lead a collaborative and innovative environment and ensure that the quality of delivery of the team is impactful and differentiated.
  • Invent or adopt methods, tools, and processes that keep Known on the cutting edge. Help us continue our innovation with AI, ML, Data Science, and whatever comes next.
  • Collaborate with Known’s Human Insights, Brand Marketing, Social Strategy, Creative, and Media teams to integrate quantitative insights into product and brand strategies, deliver comprehensive insights on integrated qual/quant research studies, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for creatives, social and media teams, and world class brands.
  • One of the most important traits of all is the ability to lead by example - from delivering a C-level briefing to writing a survey, analyzing data, or developing a standout report, you are actively setting the pace for the department.

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible custom quantitative market research and/or consulting experience. You’re an active, hands-on practitioner–you’re still designing and executing quantitative research today along with leading a team or practice area.
  • You’re a savvy seller with a roster of clients who want to work with you wherever you are.
  • You’re driven. Your passion, energy, enthusiasm, initiative, and intellectual curiosity are infectious.
  • You’re leading a high-performing team that is always learning and always seeking a better way. You’re embracing new methods and technologies and love to innovate.
  • You’re transforming the way your team works using AI and new methods to improve productivity or enrich insights.
  • Experience managing a P&L or sub-P&L to hit ambitious commercial goals.
  • An expectation for excellence (not perfection) that can balance efficiency and innovation.
  • Portable expertise in the consumer IT sector (ideally you have either been in-house or had one or many consumer tech companies as your client: Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Netflix, Amazon, etc.); entertainment sector, and consumer goods/services. Experience with enterprise / B2B Tech is a definite plus.
  • Experience and confidence in advising client stakeholders, both traditional research points of contact and business stakeholders – from Product to Marketing to the C-suite.
  • Proven ability to successfully oversee a portfolio of projects led by a broad team which extends beyond quantitative research and might include qualitative research, marketing, creatives, brand, media, social strategy teams.
  • Willingness to perform the administrative responsibilities of a department lead including budgeting, forecasting, pipeline management, staff management, project assignments, etc.
  • Willingness to serve as project leader on strategic projects–and to simply stand-in and cover for a colleague who deserves a vacation.
  • Experience with, and demonstrated success, in managing/mentoring, building, and sustaining a culture that fosters growth, accountability, and inspires the team to care about not only the work but about each other.
  • The ability to be flexible, accountable, secure stakeholder buy-in, a self-starter, with strong communication and organizational skills for a fast-paced environment.
  • A robust understanding of survey design, quotas, data collection, quality control, weighting, analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with research projects across the product development and marketing lifecycle.
  • A high level of proficiency with and flexibility to work across Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel).
  • Modeling expertise in areas such as regression, propensity modeling, segmentation/clustering, conjoint/discrete choice, maxdiff, PLS-SEM, causal inference, and machine learning.
  • Experience in statistical packages such as Q, SPSS, SAS, Latent Gold; experience in Python and/or R is a plus.
  • Experience working with syndicated datasets such as MRI-Simmons, for instance using syndicated data for market sizing and weighting or marrying custom research and syndicated data to enhance deliverables.
  • Experience using AI to improve productivity and/or enhance deliverables.
  • A desire and ability to travel domestically.
