KHAN ACADEMY BRAZIL

Khan Academy Brazil aims to deliver a world class user experience to learners that is locally relevant with content, programs, and resources for teachers, schools, and districts. Our platform is a supplemental educational digital resource that offers interactive activities based on mastery-based learning for K-12 grades covering Math, Portuguese, and Science, all aligned to BNCC. We serve more than 6 million learners across our websites, apps and youtube channels and our goal is to scale the impact of our platform by focusing on partnerships with public districts in Brazil.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Khan Academy Brazil is seeking an experienced Financial Manager to oversee our financial operations as we grow in Brazil. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up systems and processes in Brazil and day to day accounting and financial operations. You’ll work closely with our external BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) vendors and partner with cross-functional leaders to ensure compliance and high-performing financial operations. 

Your key responsibilities: 

Work with the Brazil, Latam, and U.S. teams to support the transition of the local entity to a fully operational stage, including acting as lead to establish payroll and financial systems and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Oversee financial operations supported by external BPO vendors, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly close procedures, and payroll and benefits administration
  • Manage Brazilian tax preparation and any statutory audits and support the US financial audit, ensuring strong fiscal management and financial controls are maintained throughout the year
  • Ensure that all accounting policies and procedures are well documented and communicate strong financial controls effectively
  • Lead the financial planning process for Brazil, aligning our financial model with organizational strategic plans while considering our current landscape and priorities
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to drive informed decision-making, optimize financial performance, and enhance overall business strategy alignment
  • Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to the Managing Director and Khan Academy Brazil Board as necessary
  • Support the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting process for other Latam countries

ABOUT YOU

What you bring:

  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Khan Academy, coupled with the drive to achieve and exceed our strategic objectives 
  • Over 5 years of full-time experience in finance and accounting roles within a dynamic organization
  • Exceptional communication skills, an analytical and intellectually-curious mindset, and strong problem-solving capabilities
  • An operational orientation with a hands-on approach and an exceptional attention to detail to manage both overarching strategies and detailed financial tasks
  • Knowledge of or certification in US GAAP and BR GAAP
  • Residency or willingness and ability to relocate to São Paulo, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the role
  • Portuguese and English proficiency

 You would be a great fit if you have:  

  • Experience in managerial  financial roles and in standing up new entities, ideally within non-profit or educational organizations
  • A thorough understanding of operational processes, with a focus on financial excellence and team leadership

What is nice to have:

  • Spanish at intermediate or higher level
  • Experience working with a US non-profit entity relationship
