Khan Academy is a fast-paced, nonprofit startup on a mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. We already reach millions of students every month and are growing rapidly. We’re building a library of world-class instructional and practice resources that empower learners. Whether they’re studying matrices, mitosis, or multivariable calculus, we want to offer students the resources to realize they can learn anything.

Khan Academy India aims to deliver a world-class user experience to learners in India that is locally relevant and is enabled by a strong on-the-ground team and operations. Our learning system is mastery based, which allows students to master key concepts at a pace that’s right for them before moving on to more challenging content. From serving under 500,000 learners in 2016, we are now serving almost 4 million learners a month across our websites, apps and YouTube channels. These learners include both independent learners accessing us at home and teacher directed learners in schools.  Our focus is to reach the underserved by making our content accessible in local languages and by working with large public school systems. Khan Academy is already available in Assamese, Hindi, Hinglish, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, and Punjabi (with plans to launch in Odia soon)..

Our content team in India includes content creators and localization experts who make our videos, articles, and practice questions to help teachers and students. Today, our team is focused on high school and middle school math and science. In the years ahead, we want to continue building out math and science across grades and locales.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic leader to propel our short- and long-term strategic vision of Khan India’s math and science offerings. Then, we translate that vision into concrete definitions of content success, precise project plans, and efficient processes. In this role, you’ll also be a people manager responsible for coaching and developing our team of math and science content creators and language experts (currently 15 people) to support them in doing their best work. This senior role will be a part of the India Leadership Team.

Content is integral to Khan Academy’s overall product, so this role necessitates a highly collaborative and cross-functional mindset. You’ll co-create the math and science offerings in collaboration with our state, philanthropy and data teams while also keeping the Govt school administration, teachers and principals’ needs in mind. And because we partner with several schools, you’ll need to be relationship-driven and comfortable representing Khan Academy India’s offering to external audiences.

You have a unique level of expertise, experience, and qualities, including:

  • Deep knowledge and expertise in at least one math or science area (e.g. a college degree or teaching certification in math or science). But you also have experience creating content and great intuition for when the content in an area you’re less familiar with could benefit from more clarity, simplification, or research. Preferably, you’d also have localization experience in any one vernacular language.
  • good at project prioritization, creating dashboards for tracking and sharing the team’s progress, analyzing data on usage to draw insights to inform content development strategies
  • a strong collaborator and a team player who has collaborated with field implementation teams and stakeholder/customer teams
  • Deep management experience working with teams of writers, teachers, or content creators, and you have a track record of successfully coaching and growing teams
  • Strong appetite for learning about developments in AI and innovating processes that leverage technology
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to think through short and long-term strategies as it relate to content creation priorities
  • Teaching or tutoring experience at the K-12 or university level, giving you a deep empathy with teachers and classrooms
  • You’re a strong communicator, equipped with different strategies for delivering effective feedback and for articulating how to make great ideas and content even better
  • Comfort with ambiguity and enthusiasm about experimentation
  • Leadership experience in previous stints would be preferred
  • A true passion for education
