The Role

As an accounting assistant, you'll play a crucial role in our organization's day-to-day financial operations. As the interface between internal operations and external accounting services, your role is pivotal in maintaining smooth communication and collaboration between both entities, ensuring seamless financial management processes.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and assisting in the preparation of financial statements. Additionally, you'll help ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards by maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Your attention to detail and adherence to accuracy will be essential in preparing and presenting accurate and timely financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, providing key insights and trends that inform strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Record Maintenance:
    • Accurately record and maintain financial transactions, including purchases, receipts, and payments.
    •  Sets up and maintains accounting/finance records, files, and correspondence 
    • Organize and maintain a systematic filing system for financial documents.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    • Process invoices, track payments, and manage accounts payable.
    • Reconcile accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Payroll Processing:
    • Assist in processing payroll, ensuring timely and accurate payment to employees.
    • Maintain payroll records and address any payroll-related inquiries.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Generate and review financial reports to provide insights into the company's financial status.
    • Prepare reports for management as needed.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to financial activities.
    • Stay informed about changes in relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Communication:
    • Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial information.
    • Communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and internal stakeholders.

About You

Your proficiency extends beyond theory, encompassing practical application through adept usage of accounting software like QuickBooks or Xero, coupled with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Renowned for your meticulous nature, you exhibit strong organizational skills and an unwavering attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in every task you undertake.

You excel in communication and interpersonal relations, effortlessly navigating interactions with colleagues and stakeholders alike. Your ability to work autonomously while meeting deadlines reflects a self-driven work ethic, underpinned by a knack for prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively. Proficient in various computer applications, including Google & Office Suite, you possess a keen familiarity with financial reporting practices, further enhancing your capability to contribute meaningfully to the organization's financial endeavors. A natural team player, you collaborate seamlessly with peers, exhibiting adaptability and a positive attitude even in high-pressure situations. 

Required Skills

  • Experience as an Accounting Asst, Bookkeeper or a similar role.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Ideal Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant tax laws and regulations

Compensation

This position is hourly, part-time onsite in Champaign, IL. It has potential to grow to full time in the future. The anticipated starting salary is $25-30/hr.
