KAYAK is currently seeking a motivated, self-starter for a Senior Systems/Platform Engineer position! You will contribute to the architecture and operability of the platforms and technologies that support our live production web site. Are you interested in making decisions that guide process and workflows? Then come join the Platform Operations Team and help impact all of our operations teams by doing so!

Please note, this role will be required to work from our Concord, MA office at least 3 days per week.

In this role, you will:

  • Improve our Elasticsearch clusters and tune lifecycle policies
  • Implement team standards for our Docker Swarms
  • Have a strong familiarity with Apache Airflow standard methodologies
  • Learn our existing infrastructure with the goal of joining the on-call rotation

The team will be involved in: 

  • All physical hardware that runs the website, engineering, and billing infrastructure
  • The operating systems, Puppet code, patching, and supporting tools
  • Implementing new technologies to improve our environment
  • Evaluating, improving, hardening, and upgrading existing technologies
  • Provide direct and responsive support for urgent production issues
  • Translate loosely defined requirements into hardened solutions
  • Using open source technologies and tools to accomplish goals
  • Use coding languages or scripting methodologies to tackle problems
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation

You will NOT be responsible for:

  • Helpdesk queries for laptops, monitors, mice, keyboards, etc
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Active Directory and other Windows services
  • Database administration or database engineering
  • Firewall rules and low level networking configurations

Please apply if you have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with:
    • Puppet code
    • Operating physical and virtual server environments
    • On-premise environments
  • Observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK
  • Expert skills with Linux environments
  • Familiarity with Docker, Elasticsearch, Hashicorp Vault, Redis, Airflow, HAProxy, Internet hosting technologies
  • Skilled in scripting in Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, or other related languages
  • Great understanding of networking fundamentals (LACP, IPs, routing, netmasks)
  • Experience troubleshooting live production issues
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • BS in Computer Science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study
