We are looking for a Senior Accountant to support the GL Accounting process at KAYAK. The Senior Accountant is responsible for many aspects of general ledger-related activities, such as: proper application of US GAAP, recording accounting transactions (monthly, quarterly, annual), performing balance sheet account reconciliations and account analysis. We are looking for someone who has excellent problem solving skills, is a strong communicator, thrives on process improvement and enjoys working in an exciting, fast-paced environment to support our continued growth.

 

This is a temporary position slated to last 3-6 months.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accounting entries and account reconciliations for various financial activities, including but not limited to: General Accrued Expenses, Partners & Affiliates Expenses, Marketing Expenses. Research and propose resolution for discrepancies or identified issues

  • Prepare monthly financial statement fluctuation analyses for management reporting which include P&L trend analysis, balance sheet fluctuation analysis, Guidance vs actual analysis etc.

  • Work together and support Accounting Managers in various accounting projects and global process alignment and improvement initiatives

  • Supervise the accounting and maintenance of the Company’s self-insurance reserve

  • Own financial oversight of the Brazilian legal entity including working with the local outsourced service provider and maintaining the STAT to GAAP reconciliation

  • Assist or prepare schedules to support regulatory, statutory, or management reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting

  • Work cross-functionally with and support our business partners by providing financial insights and relevant reporting

  • Assist with annual statutory audits including coordination with the external auditors and preparation of financial statements

  • Work with other KAYAK Group teams to identify and implement best practices and strive for consistency

  • Assist the KAYAK Group team with various acquisition related projects as needed

  • Assistance with development, maintenance and documentation of all policies and procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Identify areas for operational improvement, provide recommendations and execute on the changes.

  • Deliver on ad-hoc projects as requested.

Requirements/Qualifications

You are detail oriented while also able to see the big picture. When faced with a problem, you propose a solution. You love understanding the why behind the numbers, exercise professional skepticism and maintain a natural curiosity. You have shown ability to prioritize your work, manage to deadlines and keep your manager well informed. You are a self-starter with an ability to manage multiple tasks. You can work independently but know when to ask for assistance, and you take pride in ownership over your areas. You are able to effectively connect with team members and management.

Education, experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • CPA preferred

  • Combined accounting experience of 3-5 years of experience with a mix of public and private

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Be comfortable working in a rapid change environment and be willing to actively participate in projects to process improvements.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (vlookup, pivot tables, etc.)

  • Experience with accounting software such as NetSuite a plus

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high level of attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal skills both verbal and written, ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels within the organization.

  • Solution focused with the ability to prioritize and lead multiple tasks in order to meet timelines.
