As the Head of Model Engineering, specializing in natural catastrophe risk modeling, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our models accurately capture the intricate dynamics of natural disasters. Drawing upon your profound understanding of risk assessment methodologies, statistical analysis, and catastrophe modeling principles, you will spearhead the development, validation, and implementation of robust risk models to quantify and assess the potential impact of natural catastrophes on our clients' portfolios.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and refinement of sophisticated natural catastrophe risk models, integrating cutting-edge scientific research, data, and modeling techniques.
  • Oversee the validation and fine-tuning of risk models to ensure alignment with observed loss data, historical events, and scientific standards, while transparently communicating model uncertainties and constraints.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for clients across diverse industries, utilizing advanced modeling tools to measure potential losses, assess risk concentrations, and pinpoint areas of vulnerability.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including product development, engineering, and sales, to seamlessly integrate risk models into our suite of products and services.
  • Engage with clients to comprehend their risk management needs, offer expert guidance, and deliver bespoke solutions tailored to their specifications.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, methodologies, and technologies in natural catastrophe risk modeling, spearheading research endeavors to explore novel modeling approaches, enhance model performance, and address evolving client requirements.
  • Serve as a thought leader in the realm of natural catastrophe risk modeling, representing KatRisk at industry conferences, publishing research papers, and participating in expert panels to contribute to the advancement of best practices and standards.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, atmospheric science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in natural catastrophe risk modeling, with a demonstrable track record of developing and validating intricate risk models.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB, coupled with proficiency in modeling software such as RMS, AIR, or equivalent platforms.
  • Thorough comprehension of catastrophe modeling principles, encompassing hazard analysis, vulnerability assessment, and loss estimation methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership abilities, with the adeptness to mentor and manage a team of modelers effectively, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and engage with clients across all levels.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in the domain, evidenced by publications, presentations, or active participation in industry forums.
