Position Overview

As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist, you’ll be part of the Finance team and work closely with our People & Culture team. You'll define what a “best in class” experience should look like for our employees. This is a great opportunity for an experienced individual to leverage their payroll, benefits, and compensation knowledge to make an impact.

This is a 12–14-month term contract for a maternity leave where you will provide timely and accurate processing of payroll and benefits administration for the Firm and make recommendations on payroll and benefit plans, processes, and procedures.

What you’ll be doing at Kasian:

Payroll

  • Responsible for full-cycle processing of bi-weekly payroll for 270+ employees across three provinces
  • Track vacation, banked, and sick time and perform reconciliations
  • Review and import hours from the online timesheet system to ADP
  • Respond to all payroll queries
  • Process personnel changes (new hires, terminations, benefits deductions, etc.) and make appropriate adjustments to the ADP payroll system
  • Maintain master employee files
  • Prepare biweekly journal entries
  • Perform timely reconciliation of payroll records
  • Process salary changes (increases in pay, retroactive adjustments, lump sum payments)
  • Calculate and coordinate cheque preparation for statutory remittances not fulfilled by ADP
  • Issue ROEs in accordance with employment standards requirements
  • Prepare and provide statistical analyses for Firm and government reporting
  • Complete year-end processes (PIER Reports and T4s)
  • Update and maintain records according to federal and provincial statutes
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial, and federal wage laws and maintain current knowledge for all our jurisdictions
  • Special projects and tasks as assigned

Benefits/ Compensation

  • Respond to inquiries regarding benefits details from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, etc.
  • Provide day-to-day support to employees on benefits, including international benefits
  • Ensure efficient delivery, updating, and maintenance of benefits information
  • Enroll new members on the Kasian benefit plans, confirm benefit entitlements for new hires
  • Assist with new-hire onboarding of benefits and drive offboarding matters related to payroll and benefits
  • Provide administration for group life insurance, health, dental, short and long term disability, and AD&D programs
  • Provide disability management
  • Liaise with third-party benefits and payroll vendors
  • Interact with external vendors to resolve problems
  • Oversee benefits planning, including regular competitive analysis, and implementation of best practices
  • Prepare annual benefit costing and other ad-hoc reporting as required
  • Conduct periodic audits on billing and provider servicing
  • Assist with rewards and recognition program; develop and administer benefit plans
  • Perform journal entries for benefits and other HR-related expenses
  • Facilitate management and employee training and understanding of HRIS usage, payroll procedures, benefits, deductions, etc.
  • Calculate bonuses for select team members
  • Participate in external compensation surveys
  • Assist with the development and execution of our compensation strategy
  • Provide monthly metrics

What do you bring to Kasian:

  • 5+ years of payroll; accounting background an asset
  • CPA certification
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience with benefits administration and disability management
  • Knowledge of provincial employment laws
  • Strong Excel skills; ERP experience an asset
  • Experience working with confidential information
  • Experience with international benefit programs
  • Stellar communication skills and an active listener

Salary starts at $70,000+ per annum, based on a 40-hour work week. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, and skill set.
