This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.
Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise relevant to mechanical design, 3-D modeling, and stress analysis of components for high-temperature systems. The successful candidate will be focusing on the design and analysis of reactor vessel internal components intended for a first-of-a-kind Kairos Power FHR (KP-FHR) reactivity control and shutdown system.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, analysis, and prototyping of first-of-a-kind components of the KP-FHR reactivity control and shutdown system
- Perform mechanical design tradeoff and optimization studies
- Perform static and dynamic calculations for KP-FHR systems, structures, and components to evaluate stresses due to seismic, thermal, and primary loads using analytical and finite element analysis (FEA) methods
- Maintain knowledge of and assess compliance with applicable codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI, ASTM, and others
- Create and update computer-aided design (CAD) models that meet the KP-FHR requirements and ensure their compatibility with interfacing systems, structures, and components
- Create or direct the creation of engineering drawings and coordinate prototype fabrication with internal manufacturing operations and suppliers
