ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working with key internal stakeholders and government relations team members to create and implement strategies and plans for effective engagement with public policymakers/elected stakeholders based on the Company’s business priorities; Engaging appropriately with policymakers to advocate for thoughtful policy.
  • Leading and participating in cross-functional teams relating to JUUL Lab's mission and priorities.
  • Primary responsibility for engagement with Region elected official leadership organizations in which JUUL Labs Inc. is a member. Will serve as a key contact, develop plans to leverage relationships, lead engagement events and make assignments for attendance.
  • Building relationships with these organizations through networking and outreach to achieve engagement objectives. This includes working formally and informally with external subject matter experts; representing JUUL Labs Inc. at relevant meetings, and driving proactive outreach to convey JUUL Labs Inc. progress in related areas as part of a broader effort to build third-party support.  
  • Manages government relations manager and their outreach within the GR space, generally support outreach functions.
  • Executing strategy in partnership with relevant team(s), to build trust with elected stakeholders who influence the U.S. debate and policy outcomes that impact JUUL Labs Inc.
  • Work with Policy Team to create tools and execute tactics to assist in managing on-going issues, including developing briefing notes, position statements, and participating in the development of relevant reports and communications materials.
  • Engage with policymakers, where appropriate, to advocate for legislation around our products and category that aligns with our policy framework and is consistent with our regulatory strategy.
  • Success is measured by the efficacy of our engagement and the integration with our regulatory strategy

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possesses a sophisticated understanding of how state and local governments make policies and laws. This will have been gained by at least 10 years of relevant experience in stakeholder engagement or government relations outreach work (possibly in corporate, government, agency or relevant NGO/association environments).
  • Has developed skill – in either a corporate, trade, consulting or campaign setting – blending communication, political and policy strategies into effective, integrated plans to influence desired outcomes with elected officials.
  • Experience in providing strategic counsel to senior business executives particularly with regards to stakeholder engagement, policy & political strategy development, communications strategy, planning, and execution.
  • Intellectual Curiosity & Problem-Solving – intelligent and agile; comfortable with concepts and complexity; able to think independently and make sound, reasoned judgments and solve problems within a fast-paced organization.
  • Strategic Thinking – Critically evaluates the operating information and other outside information to formulate a plan for success. Focuses on outcomes and why short-term and long-term actions are chosen to influence those outcomes.
  • Accountability and Motivation – a self-starter with a strong sense of initiative, focused on results; ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and, at times, within ambiguous and undefined circumstances.
  • Communication – excellent oral, written and overall communications skills; can credibly adopt a broad range of communication styles; sensitive to specific audiences in tone as well as content.
  • Business Acumen/Strategic Perspective – understands business and the strategic role of Government Affairs in assessing and analyzing challenges and opportunities in line with business objectives.
  • Ability to Influence – strong influencing skills in an external context; plus strong influencing and change management skills to effectively manage internally in a complex matrix environment that is undergoing transformation and change.
  • Team-Orientation – a strong team-minded approach with ability to lead teams and effectively manage projects; ability to work assertively and collaboratively with management and colleagues at all levels of a decentralized organization.
  • Composure – Comfortable working in a fast-paced & deadline-driven environment; strong work ethic and personal integrity; calm under pressure.
  • Counseling to Corporate Business Leaders – possesses ability to advise business leadership on complex policy and reputation issues.
  • Experience leading a team, and managing individuals is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including an ability to convey complex policy issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Quorum, Google Docs, etc.

EDUCATION:

  • An undergraduate degree, with a law or other relevant graduate degree desired.
