ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a PK Scientist within the Engineering Simulation organization you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model for nicotine adsorption and deposition in the upper and lower tracts of lungs. This individual will
independently and creatively use modeling and simulation tools to enhance quantitative decision making. The candidate is a high energy, enthusiastic, effective individual contributor working to lead R&D projects. You will be working hands-on alongside other scientists in the lab, developing novel
methodology, furthering basic understanding of aerosol phenomena, conducting experiments to characterize JUUL and other products, and assisting the engineering team to design, analyze and test prototypes.
 
 
  • Develop a 1D pharmacokinetic model to simulate absorption of nicotine in the mouth cavity, upper respiratory tract and deep lung tissues.
  • Collaborate with the simulations group in construction of 3D CFD simulations to improve quality & fidelity of 1D models.
  • Validate PBPK models using pre-clinical in vitro data to support robust first in human dose predictions in accordance with current FDA guidance documents
  • Work with modelers and the simulation group to integrate the PBPK model with aerosol data in our CFD tool
  • Write PBPK reports for internal teams and for submission to regulatory agencies as needed
  • Act as a liaison between the clinical research team, simulation engineers, and experimental group
  •  Redirect pitfalls and develop a better course of action Identify and involve all resources required to execute successful simulations
  • Adhere to project schedules with project manager and team lead
  • Lead cross-functional communication between project teams and external vendors
  • Provide timely issue resolution and critical path management
  • Offer multiple levels of status across a wide spectrum of individual contributors to executive management
  • Understand technical issues and drive them to closure by bringing together key stakeholders for decision making.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 10 + years of experience in PK modelling
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of pharmacokinetics (compartmental, non-compartmental, PBPK, etc.)
  • Proven skills in development of PBPK models and application of PBPK simulations, supported by relevant publications on the use of pre-clinical data for human efficacious dose and nicotine adsorption prediction is highly preferred
  • Proficiency in PBPK modelling software and its use in submissions to regulatory agencies
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to filter and distill relevant information for the right audience
  • Self motivated and proactive with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities
  • Understands and deals well with rapid development cycles; remains flexible and calm in the face of ambiguity
EDUCATION:
  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in pharmacometrics, pharmaceutical sciences, systems biology, engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field plus five or more years’ relevant post doctoral industry experience required.
