ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The External Affairs Scientist will play an important role with developing a portfolio of publications and with interpreting and synthesizing key results from third-party studies.  JUUL Labs is growing rapidly, and success in this position has the potential to translate into further career growth opportunities within the company over time.

  • Consolidate and interpret external research:
    • Analyze relevant scientific studies from a range of journals, synthesize and interpret findings, and disseminate analyses
    • Act as assigned contact point for designated global region on rapid response/read team analyses in coordination with in-country medical and scientific affairs, communications, and government affairs
    • Develop white papers summarizing current scientific literature relating to electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), smoking cessation, public health, and addiction medicine
    • Work with cross-functional teams to rapidly provide scientific assessment, evaluation, contextualization to external studies, press, and communications
    • Partner closely with communications and executive leadership on requested scientific evaluation and analyses
  • Assist with processing internal publication pipeline
    • Assist with development of abstracts, posters, and papers, working alongside Principal Scientists, clinical and behavioral affairs leaders
    • Collaborate with scientific affairs team on design, structuring, and technical writing of publications, posters, and abstracts, including relationships with key external advisers and consulting scientific writers

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduate degree (e.g., M.S., M.P.H.) in Life Science (Chemistry, Biology, Public Health) related field; PhD, PharmD or MD preferred

  • 3+ years’ experience as a research scientist or in-house scientific affairs associate in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device or life sciences spaces
  • Publications record, including experience with developing and publishing peer-reviewed papers and presentations
  • Strong scientific background, ability to quickly read and summarize technical papers covering topics ranging from epidemiology to physical chemistry.  Experience in epidemiology, public health, or psychology most relevant, including:
    • Epidemiology
    • Sociology / psychology
    • Toxicology and chemistry
    • Pharmacokinetics
    • Health economics outcomes research
  • Understanding of statistics and quantitation
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, team player
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Adept at Powerpoint, Excel, Word (or platform equivalent)
  • High throughput and efficiency – able to get to the main points quickly

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced degree in scientific discipline
  • Scientific affairs experience a significant plus
  • Publication track record a plus
  • Experience with publishing software - newsletters
  • Specific experience in nicotine or smoking cessation
  • Project management experience a plus

 This position may require occasional (up to 20%) travel.
